MS Nordstjernen - polar outside cabin

The MS Nordstjernen is an authentic, small ship perfect for exploration. The standard is simple but charming. Most of the polar outside cabins are located on the middle deck, and have a window or porthole. They have their own bathroom, and most have bunk beds.

The MS Nordstjernen is named after the North Star or Stella Polaris, famous for helping seafarers find their way back home and the Vikings to navigate the north. The ship was built for the Hurtigruten Coastal Voyage fleet in 1956 and was extensively modernized in 2000 and 2013 and adapted for Arctic sailing. Today she takes explorers on adventures in the waters around Svalbard. Despite modernization, she still retains the aura of an old Atlantic ship, restored to her former splendour with new brass, classic wooden interiors and all her original art.

Out on deck, thanks to MS Nordstjernen being a small ship, you come extra close to the untouched nature of the Polar Arctic, and with roofs over a lot of the deck space you can enjoy being outside, even in rough weather. MS Nordstjernen has 3 decks, and is equipped with a dining room and bar, a café, a panorama lounge and a library. The ship has in total 71 inside and outside cabins of which most have upper and lower berths (bunk beds). Thanks to its maximum capacity of 108 passengers it will be a very unique and personal experience.

There is no entertainment on board since the focus is on exploration and relaxation. There is an expedition team on board that will give information on the route and interesting sights and wildlife sightings, as well as hold lectures (in English with German translations). There are no TVs nor telephones in the cabins. Mobile coverage is given in Longyearbyen and Barentsburg but not during the rest of the cruise. There is no Wifi on board.

Polar outside cabins (cat. A)
Most of the Polar Outside cabins of cabin category A are situated on the middle deck. They all have their own bathroom with shower and WC. Most of them have an upper and lower berth; only few offer separate beds where one can be turned into a sofa. The cabins are all rather small but vary a bit in size and appearance. The interior is simple and rather “old-fashioned”. They all have a window or porthole, none of which can be opened though.

Possible upgrade: MS Nordstjernen has 4 polar outside cabins of category N. They are located on the upper deck and are bigger than the category A cabins. Most of them have 3 beds; 2 bunk beds and 1 separate that can be turned into a sofa. They have their own bathroom and window.

We can upgrade to cabin category N if available; an additional cost will apply (please contact us for an offer).

If booking a triple or family room in tour category GOLD, we need to upgrade to cabin category N during the cruise since all cabins of category A only have two beds (the additional cost is included in the triple / family room price).
