Walrus Safari in Longyearbyen

Join in on this spectacular safari by the brand new closed hybrid boat "Kvitbjørn" to visit a walrus colony. Seeing these majestic animals in their natural habitat is a unique experience.

Walruses became protected animals in 1952. When this happened, the population was only a couple of hundred animals, after 350 years of hunting. In recent years, the population has recovered sharply and the walrus is finally a common sight again. You can see the Walruses resting on ice floes, or during summer and autumn on beaches and small islets. Walruses are extremely social animals and usually appear in groups.

The boat is a brand-new closed hybrid boat "Kvitbjørn". After driving for one hour you will find yourself in Borebukta. From here on the electric motor will be used to get a completely silent propulsion. With this technology it is possible to experience the wildlife without disturbing. If you want to have an insight in the wildlife underneath, you can see it due to the underwater drone.
