The days starts with a 15-minute drive to the starting point of the hike, passing Mannafelsdalur, the site of a bloody Viking battle from 700 years ago. Here, mounds of grass still grow with a red hue, said to be stained by the blood of slain Viking rebels.
Soon you will be greeted by truly breathtaking panoramic views overlooking Vágoy and Trøllkonufingur – a photographer's dream and a landscape right out of a Tolkien legend. The walk takes you over the ridge to an open landscape with views of the lake at Vatnsdalur and down to Norðadalur, offering spectacular vistas of the islands Hestoy and Koltur. Here you will pause to enjoy some Faroese delicacies and refreshments before taking a short drive into the capital, Tórshavn.
In Tórshavn, you will embark on an historical tour through the ancient and narrow cobbled streets that wind through traditional wooden, grass-roofed houses – the quintessence of the Faroe Islands. The tour concludes at Tinganes, where you will explore the ancient site of the oldest parliament in the world.
