About Escorted Coach Tours

The escorted coach tours are especially designed for those who seek a standard of accommodation and services above the norm. Together with a professional English speaking tour escort and local guides you will be introduced to Scandinavia, its capitals and breathtaking nature. All departures are guaranteed, meaning that all tours will be performed regardless of the number of participants

Frequently asked questions about Escorted Coach Tours

What is included in the tour price?
For an overview of the services included in the tour price for each package tour please refer to “Price Details” for each tour.

How large is the group?
The maximum number of persons per tour is 44.

Is this a bilingual tour?
All coach tours are accompanied by an experienced English speaking tour escort. The guiding and information provided will be in English only.

When and where will we meet the guide?
The tour escort will meet you at your hotel at 19:50 hrs on the first day of the tour (followed by dinner).

Is airport transfer included?
Transfers by car, taxi or bus between the local airport mentioned in the tour itinerary and your hotel on both arrival and departure is included in the price of our escorted coach tours.

Transfers will be arranged to coincide as conveniently as possible with your flight arrival and departure times. All clients will be met at the airport by a representative, who will assist you in finding the transfer vehicle.

In the case of delayed arrivals due to flight changes or other causes of which Authentic Scandinavia has not been informed in advance, then Authentic Scandinavia is no longer responsible for providing the transfer. We regret that no refund can be given to clients who do not make use of the transfer offered in the tour program.

Airport transfer is only included if you arrive/depart at the main airports on the same day as the escorted coach tour start/end. I.e. if booking an additional overnight airport transfer is not included in the price. We will however provide you with detailed information on how you can get from the airport to your hotel by public transport.

Please be aware that certain airlines offer cheaper flights to alternative airports from the main city airport, even though these airlines may advertise the destination as Oslo, Stockholm, etc. Such airports can be situated more than 2 hours drive from your hotel. If you are arriving at or departing from a different airport from the one mentioned in the tour program, airport transfer is unfortunately not included.

What is the difference between a panorama tour and city sightseeing tour?
City sightseeing tours are guided by an authorised local guide. Museums and other places, to which entrance is included, are specified in the list of services for each tour. The mention of a famous sight, such as a royal palace, does not imply that entrance to this attraction is included in the program.

A panorama tour is intended to familiarise you with the city or town by showing you the major points of interest. Transportation may be by coach or on foot, and the tour may be conducted by a local guide or by your tour escort. A panorama tour does not include any entrances.

Are all meals included in the tour price?
Dinner (3 courses or Scandinavian buffet) and buffet breakfast are included during every day of the tour, including dinner on day of arrival and buffet breakfast on day of departure. Please note however that in Stockholm we have included lunch instead of dinner on the second day, as we have found this particular arrangement is preferred by many clients. On days which are mostly spent travelling by coach inside Scandinavia, lunch is also included. Days on which lunch is included, are carefully indicated under the list of services for each tour.

Dinner is served at set times, and in the case of late arrivals it may not be possible to serve dinner after that time. We regret that no refund can be made to clients who arrive too late for dinner. Similarly no refund can be made for clients who are unable to take breakfast at the hotel because of early flight departures. Beverages are not included in the tour price, except where specifically stated in the itinerary.

Vegetarian or special diet meals can normally be arranged; however these must be requested at the time of booking.

Extra nights: Clients who have reserved extra nights before the start or after the end of a tour have Scandinavian buffet breakfast included each day.

How much luggage can I bring?
Each person may bring 1 piece of luggage per person on the coach, plus one carry on/hand luggage. Hand luggage must be stowed on the overhead shelf. For reasons of security and as a precaution against theft, we strongly advise the use of hardback suitcases which can be locked. On domestic flights inside Scandinavia and Russia, passengers are allowed a maximum of 20 kilograms of luggage per person.

Is porter service included?
The carrying of 1 piece of luggage per person between the coach and your hotel room during the tour is always included in the tour price. Because of security regulations, passengers are normally required to collect and deliver their own luggage at airports.

Can I join only parts of the tour?
It is unfortunately not possible to join only parts of the tour, as the place will then be blocked for other travelers for the entire tour. It is however possible to add additional services before and/or after the tour. I.e. you can combine an escorted tour with one of our independent tours or a cruise with for example Hurtigruten or Göta Canal.

What is the child reduction for the escorted tours?
The escorted coach tours are unsuitable for younger children, thus children under the age of 12 will not be accepted. Children between the ages of 12-18 must be accompanied by an adult (no child reduction).

How will I receive my travel documents and tickets?
All travel documents will be sent by e-mail. Included in the travel documents are a detailed travel itinerary and travel vouchers. You will receive one travel voucher for the the escorted coach tour, and one travel voucher for each additional service booked. These vouchers are your proof of payment and must be presented to the tour leader and hotel reception upon check-in.

About the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis)

If you are outdoors one evening during wintertime you might catch a glimpse of some flickering curtains of lights, apparently dancing across the dark sky. This is Northern Lights - Nature's own firework.

Facts about Northern Lights:

  • The Northern Lights are particles that are hurled into space after storms on the sun’s surface. They are attracted by the magnetic North Pole (and South Pole) and enter the atmosphere in a ring-like zone around the poles.
  • The best places to see the Northern Lights are above the arctic circle, making Northern Scandinavia ideal for Northern Lights observations.
  • The Northern Lights are visible between November and March when the sky is dark and clear, depending on the Northern Lights activity.
  • The best chances of spotting the Northern Lights are away from the lights of the city centres.
  • The greatest frequency is between 6 pm and 2 am.
  • Patience and dedication will pay off. The Northern Lights may be visible for a couple of minutes or most of the evening.
  • Most of the Northern Lights outbursts visible in Northern Scandinavia are green, but large outbursts can also include other colors.
  • Northern Lights observations are never guaranteed.

How to increase your chances of experiencing the Northern Lights:

  • Go on a Northern Lights visit to a dark place away from the city lights. Our Northern Lights hosts provide a lavvo (traditional Saami tent) with an open fire, a hot drink and a slice of cake while you are waiting for the Northern Lights to appear.
  • Participate in an evening activity like dog sledding, a sleigh ride, a trip with reindeer and sled, snowshoeing or a cross-country skiing course. This way, you can enjoy a fun winter activity whilst at the same time wait for the Northern Lights to appear.
  • When in Tromsø take bus 37 to Tromsø Museum and take a long stroll along Tromsø Island’s dark western side. Use a couple of hours strolling to the bus terminal at Giæverbukta, from where there are frequent departures to the city centre right up until 11:30pm.
  • Hire cross-country skis at Sportshuset in Tromsø. Go on a long ski trip in the floodlit ski tracks above the city. Good exercise, fresh air, great views and maybe the appearance of the Northern Lights as well. There are also good floodlit ski tracks across the bridge in Tromsdalen.
  • Go on the popular excursion, departing Tromsø by bus at 4pm and arriving in Skjervøy in time to return to Tromsø on the Costal Express Steamer (Hurtigruten). The ship travels through utter darkness and has excellent viewing lounges, which makes it possible to sit inside without missing out on the possibility to see the Northern Lights. It is possible to check the weather forecast and book this tour at the Visitors’ Centre right up until an hour before departure.
