Breakfast at the hotel. Day at leisure to explore Oslo. The city offers many sightseeing possibilities, both by boat on the Oslo fjord and by bus (please see add-ons for details and additional costs). Oslo is a rather small capital and can also be explored on foot and by public transport. Why not take one of the boats departing from the city centre of Oslo to Bygdøy peninsula where several of Oslo's museums are located? Here you can visit the Fram-, Kon-tiki and Viking Museum. A visit at Vigeland Sculpture Park and Oslo's new opera house should also be included in a visit to Oslo. Accommodation in Oslo.
Breakfast at the hotel. Morning departure from Oslo by train. The 5-hour train journey from Oslo to Myrdal is part of the Bergen Railway, classed as one of the finest train journeys in the world. The train journey will bring you across Hardangervidda Mountain Plateau, with Finse as the highest train station at 1222 metres above sea level. In Myrdal you will change to the Flåm Railway, connecting the Bergen Line to the Sognefjord. You will pass through wild and beautiful mountain scenery with waterfalls and steep mountain sides before reaching the fjord village of Flåm. Here you will have one hour at leisure, before embarking on a cruise on the Sognefjord, the world’s longest and deepest fjord, to Balestrand. However, by adding an overnight in Flåm, you will have the possibility to join a tour to see the Nærøyfjord. The Nærøyfjord is the narrowest fjord channel in Europe, and has been added to UNESCO’s list of world heritage sites (please see add-ons for further details).
Accommodation in Balestrand (room with fjord view).
Breakfast at the hotel. Spend the day in Balestrand or go on an optional excursion to Fjærland and the Glacier Museum. Travel on the Fjærlandsfjord and experience one of the most beautiful fjord arms in Norway. Along the fjord, the old hamlets and farms are reminders of the struggle for existence in past times. Local busses will transport you to the Glacier Museum, where you will learn more about the glaciers and how the fjords were formed. From there you will continue to one or two extensions of the Jostedal Glacier; Supphellebreen and Bøyabreen glaciers (not possible to walk on the glaciers). If choosing the full day excursion you will have time at leisure to explore Fjærland, the Norwegian Book Town. Return by ferry to Balestrand (excursion possibel June-August. See add-ons for details and price). Accommodation in Balestrand (room with fjord view).
Breakfast at the hotel. Continue by boat on the Sognefjord and then along the coast of Norway in southern direction to Bergen – the Gateway to the Fjords. Bergen is Norway’s second largest city and the world’s only city surrounded by 7 mountains and 7 fjords. Accommodation in Bergen.
Breakfast at the hotel. This day is at your own leisure to explore Bergen. Even though Bergen is Norway's second larges city, it has the charm of a small town. One of the most recognisable sights in Bergen is the Hanseatic Bryggen Wharf with its wooden buildings and quaint shops. Other sights of interest include Edvard Grieg's home Troldhaugen, the Fish and Flower market, Bergen Aquarium and Gamle Bergen (Old Bergen Open Air Museum). We also recommend a trip with Fløibanen funicular, which will bring you from the city centre and up to Mount Fløyen where you will have panorama view of the city and its surrounding fjords and mountains. Breakfast at the hotel. Departure from Bergen according to your own itinerary. As an alternative we can offer a return train to Oslo.
