Arrival in Reykjavik according to your own itinerary. Please note that airport transfer is not included but this can be booked separately, see add-ons for further details. Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland, is located 45 minutes from the airport.
The Icelandic population consists of only 320.000 people and almost 60% of them live in the greater Reykjavik area. Even though Reykjavik is not a big city compared to other capitals of the world, it has everything a cosmopolitan city should offer; great dining, unique boutiques, shops, museums, theaters and a vibrant nightlife. Dinner is not included in the program this evening, but there is an excellent restaurant at the hotel and Reykjavik offers many quality restaurants to choose from. Breakfast at the hotel. Today you will drive from the capital and head for Hvalfjördur fjord, one of the longest and deepest fjords in Iceland. From there you continue to the Western part of Iceland to explore the waterfalls Hraunfoss and Barnafoss, known for their exceptional beauty and unusual natural phenomena. You will also stop at Deildartunguhver hot spring, which bubbles out algae covered boulders at a steamy 97°C (200°F). In the afternoon you will reach Stykkisholmur village and take a lovely ferry ride across the spectacular seascape of Breidafjördur Bay dotted with 3000 tiny islands. The bay is also home to 50 bird species. Dinner and accommodation in Flokalundur area at Hotel Flokalundur (or similar hotel).
Breakfast at the hotel. This day you will discover unique sights along the Westfjord Coast, including a stroll along the 10 km long, cinnamon-colored Raudisandur beach. The beautiful beach shifts in color from golden orange to red depending on the light of the day. After the stop you will continue to the quirky folk museum at Hnjotur. There you will find many remarkable items from old times, demonstrating means of occupation and survival, on land as well as sea, through the ages. The last stop of the day will be at Latrabjarg, Europe's largest bird cliff and also Europe's Westernmost point. A footpath leads along the clifftops, with excellent views of the thousands of seabirds that come here to nest on the countless ledges below. The area provides good photo opportunities. Breakfast at the hotel. This day you will head towards Isafjördur, the biggest village in the Westfjords. On the way you will make a stop at the spectacular waterfall named Dynjandi. You will also stop at a thermal hot pool where you will have the opportunity to take a dip in a warm pool or the natural hot spring next to it. There are simple changing facilities on spot but no showers. Being able to bath in a hot spring next to the Atlantic Ocelan Coastline is for sure a unique experience. After the relaxing bathing stop you will continue to Isafjördur village. Isafjördur has a lovely old town center with beautiful restored timber buildings, a thriving harbor and stylish cafés. Dinner and accommodation in Isafjördur village for the next 2 nights at Hotel Edda Isafjördur (or similar hotel).
Breakfast at the hotel. This day will start with a few minutes drive from the hotel to the small village of Bolungarvik. There you will go on board a ferry which will take you to the interesting place of Hesteyri village. During the 40 minutes boat tour you will sail across Isafjardardjup fjord, the largest fjord in the Westfjords. Hesteyri village had about 80 inhabitants at the high peak of the village in the year 1941, but a few years later everyone had moved away. People visit this place now to see the old houses and enjoying the peaceful nature. The guide will arrange easy walks and explore the Hesteyri area with you. Lunch pack will be served. In the afternoon you will sail back with the ferry and head to the hotel. Dinner is not included in the program this evening, but there are several excellent restaurants focusing on the area's famous seafood to choose from. Breakfast at the hotel. This morning you will leave Isafjördur village to the south, stopping en route at the interesting Arctic Fox Center in Sudavik. From there, you will head towards Holmavik village where you visit a local cafe to try freshly baked waffles. After the stop in Holmavik the tour continues to the green valleys of Laugar in Sælingsdal, an area rich in ancient Icelandic history. Last stop before arriving at the hotel will be at an outdoor thermal hot spring which you can bath in. The pool is built from natural materials and is intended to resemble a Viking age pool. Dinner and accommodation at Laugar in Sælingsdal area at Hotel Edda Laugar Sælingsdalur (or similar hotel).
Breakfast at the hotel. Today you will head back to the capital, Reykjavik. On the way you will make a few interesting stops. The first one will be at Eiriksstadir farm, which was the original home of Erik the Red and birthplace of his son, Leif Eikriksso, who is said to have discovered North America. In the turf-covered longhouse at Eiriksstadir, you will meet modern day Vikings who will demonstrate the lifestyle from 1000 years ago. The next stop will be at a local dairy farm, where you will be introduced to Icelandic farming life and get to sample freshly made ice cream. The last stop before continuing to Reykjavik will be at a 3500 year old volcano named Grabrok. There you can join a short hike to the top. From the top you will have a great view over the surrounding area. After the last stop the coach will continue to Reykjavik. Dinner on your own this evening.
