Combine an overnight in the Northern Light city of Tromsø with a visit to Lyngsfjord wilderness camp in inland Norway. Here you will experience dog sledding, an overnight in a traditional sami tent and a reindeer safari. Far away from the lights of the city you also have excellent chances of seeing the Northern Lights.

Arrival in Tromsø according to your own itinerary. The Arctic city of Tromsø is the world’s most northern university town and the largest city in the Nordic countries north of the Arctic Circle. Due to the city’s location right in the middle of the planet’s Northern Light’s belt, the Tromsø area offers the world’s best chances of spotting the Northern Lights. This evening we recommend joing a Northern Lights excursion (please see add-on). Accommodation in Tromsø.
Breakfast at hotel. Today is at your own leisure before the afternoon departure to Lyngsfjord. Tromsø is surrounded by mountains and we recommend taking the cable car up to the mountain Storsteinen, 420 metres above sea level. From here you will have panoramic views over the city, the surrounding waterways and mountains. At 16:45 hrs it is time to travel inland by bus for 75 minutes to the wilderness camp ‘Camp Tamok’ where you will stay overnight. This evening you will join a dog sledding excursion, which will start with learning how to train and groom the dogs. You will get detailed instructions on how to drive a dog sledding team. Then you will drive the dog sled into the white winter landscapes, through the beautiful valley of Vass, a total distance of 16 km. The area is totally uninhabited and the speed of the dogs will impress you. You will drive in pairs, one driver and one passenger on each sled, with the opportunity to switch places half way. If the sky is clean, you have good chances of seeing the Northern Lights. Back at the camp a hot meal will be served in the Lavvu tent. Breakfast at camp Tamok. After breakfast you will join a 2-3 hours reindeer safari in remote, inland valleys and mountain areas together with a skillful guide. There is space for two persons on a sled with one reindeer who is pulling the sled. The sleds will follow in a row. The excursion will take you to the majestic Lyngen, where beautiful fjords meet alpine mountains. In this area Norwegian Sami and Kven people have lived together for hundreds of years. Reindeer sledding is the oldest form of transport in the North and an ancient part of Sami culture.
During the excursion you will hear folk tales and learn about Sami culture, history and food; you will also get an introduction to traditional Sami handicraft; and you can even try your hand at lasso throwing. A lunch will be served back at the camp before your transfer back to Tromsø. You Arrival at approximately 16:00 hrs.
