This tour can commence in: Stockholm
Arrival in Stockholm according to your own itinerary. The royal capital of Sweden is over 750 years old and spreads across 14 islands. The city is surrounded by lakes, sea and forests and an archipelago consisting of more than 24 000 islands. Sights of interest include the Vasa Museum, Skansen Open Air Museum, City Hall, the Old Town (Gamla Stan), with a history dating back to the 13th century, and Drottningholm Palace. This evening we recommend a 3-hour scenic dinner cruise by S/S Stockholm where you can enjoy first-class views of the stunning archipelago (see add-ons). Accommodation in Stockholm.
Breakfast at the hotel. This morning you will travel by bus from Stockholm Central train station to the quay at Nynäshamn. The bus takes about 1 hour and it will let you off in the harbor in time for your 3-hour ferry crossing to Gotland, Sweden’s largest island. You will arrive to the medieval town of Visby with its city wall, winding cobblestone streets and alleys. In the 1360s Visby was one of the crown jewels of the Hanseatic League and a rich and prosperous merchant city. Goods from all over the world were bartered and traded inside the 3.5 km long town wall that surrounds the merchants' old stone houses and churches. Today, the many ruins of churches and abbeys give Visby, "the City of Roses and Ruins," its unique charm. Visby is today recognised as a world heritage site by UNESCO. Gotland itself has many historic monuments, museums and ruins of churches and abbeys. More buried treasures have been found here in modern times than anywhere else in the world. Accommodation in Visby.
Breakfast at the hotel. Today we recommend a walk to Fiskargränd, which is one of Visby’s most popular narrow streets with its roses and tiny houses. Visby also has a beautiful botanical garden where you can relax after a day exploring the old town. From Visby, it is also possible to hire a bike and cycle to a large number of interesting sites and attractions spread out across the island. All along the coast, you will find beautiful beaches, rocky cliff areas and sheltered spots for swimming in the summer. Accommodation in Visby.
Breakfast at the hotel. Today you will depart Visby by boat and sail to Nynäshamn from where you catch the bus back to Stockholm. The evening is at your own leisure in Stockholm. Accommodation in Stockholm.
