The Aurora Safari Camp is the first glamp-site in the world of its kind created for arctic winter conditions. Stay in one of the heated Tipi Cabins, each designed with a cosy and comfortable feeling or in a Lapland Cone (glass igloo) in the middle of the dense forest in Swedish Lapland.
The Aurora Safari Camp is situated 70 kilometers from Luleå. Here in the middle of the forest you are far away from any artificial light disturbing your chances of seeing the Northern Lights. The camp is ideally situated next to Lake Degerselet, a large frozen lake just slightly smaller than Manhattan Island. As part of the Råne River, it offers stunning vistas and an uninterrupted night sky, making it the perfect destination for a Northern Lights adventure. The camp is owned and run by a Swedish photographer who can give you tips how to best capture the Northern Lights with your camera.
The Aurora Safari Camp takes it’s inspiration from the smaller, hidden bush camp-model in Kenya, but adjusting it for the unpredictable Arctic weather, climate and conditions. The camp is completely off the grid and road networks, situated about 2 kilometres from the small village Lassbyn where you will find the reception house.
During the day you can spend time out in the beautiful Lappish environment and take in the sounds from the forest, wildlife, birds and icecaps of the frozen waters. The nearby Råne River is one of the longest free flowing forest rivers in Sweden that has no dams or hydro powers. The river valley has thousands of lakes of various sizes and a lot of small side-rivers. Explore the surroundings on snowshoes, Nordic skis, fatbikes or kick sleds, free to use during your stay.
Aurora Safari Camp’s two heated Lapland Cone (glass igloo) rooms feature a glass roof and panoramic windows facing north, offering guests exceptional views of the Aurora from the comfort of their rooms. Each cone includes a separate entrance hallway for removing winter clothing and boots, and an en-suite bathroom with an incineration toilet and wash basin, ensuring all necessary amenities for a comfortable stay. The rooms can be configured as either double or twin rooms, providing flexibility for guests.
The three Heated Tipi Cabins, each designed for a cosy and comfortable stay are thoughtfully furnished and decorated. They feature north-facing glass verandas with stunning views of the scenery and the Northern Lights during winter months. Pellet burners keep the cabins warm and cosy throughout. Each cabin also has an en-suite bathroom with an incineration toilet and wash basin, providing all necessary amenities. The Tipi Cabins can accommodate single, double or twin.
Guests are encouraged to chop their own wood (if they wish) for the wood burning stoves and the washroom is located about 20-75 meters from your accommodation. You can take a shower when you have your own private time in the sauna down by the lake. In summertime the sauna is floating and in wintertime it is freezed into the ice of the lake. One of the most popular things at the camp is the small ice pool where you can take a plunge when warm from the sauna.
Lunch, 4-course dinner and breakfast is included as well as snacks and drinks including a nice selection of beer, wine and a bar menu. Coffee, tea and hot chocolate. Snacks whenever you like.
