The traditional wooden cottages are made of impressively large kelo pines, trees aged up to 700 years that once stood dead and dried out. Inside, everything from the lamps to the furniture is handmade by local craftsmen in a rugged style that fits with the wild surroundings.
The small log cabin is 52 square meters in size and comes with a small kitchenette. The log cabin has a sauna and sleeping quarters for up to 4 persons. One double bed in the living room and one bunk bed for two persons in a separate bedroom, ideal for 2 couples or a small family. While guests won’t find widescreen TVs or dishwashers inside, you can enjoy even better sources of entertainment in every cabin – a fireplace and your own private sauna.
The Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort is located 250 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle in Finnish Lapland. The resort is in the Saariselkä fell area and the village is surrounded by stunning arctic wilderness near the Urho Kekkonen National Park. Kakslauttanen Arctic resort is divided into the East and West ‘Villages’ comprising cosy log cabin chalets and glass- and snow igloos, surrounded by pristine nature. Both villages have a reception, a small gift shop and a restaurant. Please note that the villages are approximately 4 kilometres apart.
Kakslauttanen is an ideal place for viewing the Northern Lights because of its location far above the Arctic Circle. There is almost no light pollution and very few trees blocking your line of vision. The Northern Lights are visible from late August to late April, and statistically the best time to see them is just before midnight.
