Welcome to the far North of Norway above the Arctic Circle. Experience Tromsø, a Hurtigruten cruise and Kirkenes. You will also travel deep into stunning winter landscapes and visit Kongsfjord; a fishing village with no more than 35 inhabitants. Meet the locals, hunt for the Northern Lights and join activities such as a king crab safari.
This tour can commence in: Tromsø
Arrival in Tromsø according to your own itinerary. You can reach Tromsø by direct flight from both Kirkenes and Oslo. Tromsø is surrounded by mountains, fjords and islands and is the largest town in the Nordic countries north of the Arctic Circle. It is placed right in the Northern Lights' belt making it one of the best places in the world for spotting the Northern Lights. In the evening we recommend a Northern Lights Dog Sledding tour (please see add-ons for winter activities). Please see add-ons should you wish to combine this tour with Oslo, the capital of Norway. Accommodation in Tromsø.
Breakfast at the hotel. Today is at your own leisure before your evening departure with Hurtigruten. Sights of interest in Tromsø include the Polar Museum, Arctic Cathedral, Polaria Arctic Aquarium, Mack brewery and more. Also recommended are activities such as the Snowmobile Safari or a Sami Culture & Reindeer Sleigh Ride. Dinner and accommodation onboard.
Breakfast onboard. After spending the morning at sea you will arrive to Honningsvåg around noon. Here you can join the optional excursion to the North Cape Plateau with panoramic views of the open wide expanse of the Arctic Ocean. Entrance to the North Cape Hall with viewing platform, souvenir shops, cinema, cafeteria and restaurant is included in the excursion. Dinner is included onboard before your arrival in the coastal village of Båtsfjord just before midnight. Transfer to your hotel. Accommodation in Båtsfjord.
Breakfast at the hotel, before your guide will take you on a King Crab Safari by boat. You will learn how to catch the king crabs and will get to see them up close. If the catch is good you may even take some king crab meat with you to Kongsfjord where a delicious taste will be prepared by your hosts. Depending on the weather conditions the drive from Båtsfjord to Kongsfjord will take about one hour. As you travel across the mountain, surrounded by untouched nature, you might experience reindeer, snow storm or a sunny winter wonderland. In case of bad weather the drive will be in a convoy. The tiny village of Kongsfjord is a hidden gem in the Arctic; you will be staying at cosy refurbished houses in a traditional fishing village. Kongsfjord Guest House used to be a farmhouse and a fishermen’s quarter dating back to the end of the 18th century (see hotel description for further details). Here you are far away from the bright city lights and you have excellent chances of spotting the Northern Lights in the darkness. Lunch, dinner and accommodation at Kongsfjord Guest House.
Your friendly hosts will serve you a delicious homemade breakfast in their traditional Norwegian home. Today you can choose from a range of nature based winter activities such as guided snow show hikes or a dog sledding tour. Experience the total relaxed harmony in the nature and atmosphere. At lunch time your hosts will serve you traditional home made food made of fresh local ingredients, including a taste of King Crab from your safari in Båtsfjord. Why not spend the afternoon borrowing one of the kick sledges and explore this small charming village, before your two-course dinner is served at the house. After dinner, relax in front of the fireplace and if you are lucky, watch the Northern Lights dancing across the sky. Accommodation in Kongsfjord.
Breakfast at the guesthouse. This morning is at your own leisure before departure around noon to Berlevåg. We recommend that you borrow snow shoes for a walk out to the edge of Veines peninsula. On the walk you can explore the wild and beautiful winter landscape with snow-covered beaches, troll-shaped cliffs, and wind-blown snow cornices. Around noon your host will transport you over the mountains to Berlevåg airport. The road from Kongsfjord to Berlevåg is one of the most scenic roads in Norway and is inhabited by reindeer, sea eagles and hare. From Berlevåg you will continue with a small plane making several stops on the way towards Kirkenes. You will fly low over the Norwegian winter landscape making it possible to enjoy the scenery. Afternoon at leisure in Kirkenes. In the evening we recommend visiting the Snow Hotel for dinner (please see add-ons). Accommodation in Kirkenes.
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure from Kirkenes will be according to your own itinerary or perhaps you would like to stay one more night at the Snow Hotel and try winter activities such as dog sledding?
