This tour can commence in: Bergen
Arrival in Bergen according to your own itinerary. Your hotel for the next two nights is the historic Solstrand Hotel, situated by the Bjørnefjord only 30 km south of Bergen and Flesland airport. Solstrand Hotel has been in the Schau-Larsen family for four generations, preserving a tradition of unsurpassed hospitality, traditional cuisine and a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere. Dinner and accommodation at Solstrand Hotel (room with fjord view).
Breakfast at the hotel. This day is at your own leisure. We recommend an excursion to Bergen, Norway’s second largest city and the world’s only city surrounded by 7 mountains and 7 fjords. Attractions in Bergen include the Hanseatic Bryggen Harbour, Fløibanen Funicular, Troldhaugen, the Fish and Flower market, Bergen Aquarium and Gamle Bergen (Old Bergen Open Air Museum). Accommodation at Solstrand Hotel (room with fjord view).
Breakfast at the hotel. Two ferry crossings (to be paid on spot) will bring you across the Bjørnefjord and the Hardangerfjord to Jondal, while you will have the possibility to see Norway’s 3rd largest glacier, Folgefonna.
Continue on the scenic road via Utne and along Sørfjorden, an arm of the Hardangerfjord, to Lofthus. Along the way we recommend a visit at Agatunet and Tyssedal Power Plant; Agatunet is one of the few remaining farm communities which provides unique examples of western Norwegian building traditions from the Middle Ages until the present day. In addition to the farm buildings the museum offers handicraft shops, art exhibitions, a workshop for weavers, baking of traditional food and much more. Your hotel for the next two nights is the impressive Ullensvang Hotel, beautifully located in Lofthus on the Hardangerfjord. The Hardangerfjord is the second largest fjord in Norway, and famous for it’s fruit orchards. The contrast created by green hillsides, orchards in blossom and snow-clad mountains has inspired many, and among them the well known Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg with his famous composition «Spring». If travelling in May you will have the possibility to see the lovely blossoming of the fruit trees. Dinner and accommodation at Ullensvang Hotel (room with fjord view).
Breakfast at the hotel. This day is at your own leisure to explore the Hardangerfjord region or to take advantage of the hotel’s many facilities. The area also offers excellent hiking possibilities and plenty of activities like kayaking, white water rafting and even guided hikes to Trolltunga. Dinner and accommodation at Ullensvang Hotel (room with fjord view).
Breakfast at the hotel before departure from Lofthus. Soon after you will cross the Hardangerfjord on the impressive Hardangerfjord Bridge, which is one the world's longest suspension bridges. As you reach the other side of the fjord you have the option to drive via Voss or to drive along the Hardangerfjord via Norheimsund to Bergen. If driving along the fjord we recommend a stop at the Hardanger Aqua Centre in Steinstø, where you can learn more about Norwegian Fish Farming and visit the fish farm itself, floating on the fjord about 300 meters away (boat ride to fish farm included in entrance ticket, to be paid on the spot). Continue towards Bergen, passing the impressive Steindalsfossen waterfall. Accommodation in Bergen.
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure from Bergen according to your own itinerary. Or perhaps you would like to combine the tour with one of our independent rail tours from Bergen to Oslo? We recommend Sognefjord Adventure and Norway in a Nutshell.
