Travel to Swedish Lapland where you get the opportunity to stay at two truly unique hotels: the amazing Treehotel near Luleå and the world’s first and largest Ice Hotel in Jukkasjärvi. You can choose to join optional winter activities, such as Northern Lights chases, dog sledding tours, snowmobile safaris or ice sculpting.
Arrival at Luleå airport according to your own itinerary. The taxi transfer from the airport to the Treehotel is included and takes max. 1,5 hours. The Treehotel is located in the surroundings of the village Harads, near the Lule River. Harads has a population of about 600 inhabitants, and it features a restaurant, shop and guest house. When you arrive at the Treehotel, you will check in at Britta’s Guest House. From here it is a short stroll through the beautiful nature to your tree room. The eco-friendly Treehotel consists of seven rooms, each designed by a different Swedish architect, nestled between 4 to 6 metres up in the pines. Here you can enjoy the quiet, timelessness and harmony that are found in the tree and its surroundings. In winter, you can hire snow shoes, cross country skies or a kick sled and explore the surroundings on your own. Another opportunity is joining a guided tour organized by the Treehotel or relaxing in the tree sauna (both against a fee). Britta’s Guest House has an authentic 1930-50’s setting, and offers a restaurant, bar, sauna, TV, and internet. Accommodation in a tree room (see hotel description for further details).
After breakfast at Britta’s Guest House enjoy the morning at your own leisure. We recommend you to join one of the winter activities, such as snow shoeing, an ice fishing or dog sledding trip (available time depending on train departure). Around late lunch, you will continue your tour by train to Kiruna. A 25-minute transfer will bring you from Kiruna train station to the Ice Hotel. The Ice Hotel is situated in the small village of Jukkasjärvi in Swedish Lapland. Each year in early winter, artists from all over the world gather here to create the world's largest Ice hotel. The hotel has over 50 rooms built from snow and crystal clear ice. In the hotel, you will find an ice chapel, an ice art exhibition hall and the famous Icebar by Ice Hotel. The interior is always between -5°C to -8°C, even when it gets much colder outside. Some building work will continue into early January where guests can watch the creation of this masterpiece. Winter activities have not been included in this tour, giving you the opportunity to choose freely amongst the activities on offer in Jukkasjärvi. It is recommended that you book these activities in advance to secure space.
In the evening, you can join one of the Northern Lights safaris and/or dine at the Ice Hotel Restaurant, which is awarded with the prestigious Werner Vögeli Statuette and featured in gourmet magazines around the world. Alternatively, dine at the authentic and charming Old Homestead Restaurant 800 meters away from the Ice Hotel, which offers a rustic á la carte menu and overlooks the Torne River. At night, you will stay at the Ice Hotel, in rooms furnished with furniture made from ice and snow. You will sleep in a thermal sleeping bag on comfortable reindeer skins on the specially built beds of snow and ice (please see hotel description for further details about the Ice Hotel and dining options).
In the morning you will wake up to a cup of hot lingonberry juice at your bedside. Take a walk to the sauna to warm up before breakfast is served at the restaurant located next to the Ice Hotel. This day is at your own leisure. We recommend joining one of the winter activities such as dog sledding, where you can experience driving your own team of huskies, a snow mobile safari or rent cross country skies or snowshoeing equipment and head off on your own. In the evening, we recommend joining one of the Northern Lights activities. Overnight at Kaamos Hotel (warm accommodation) next to the Ice Hotel.
You will have breakfast at the hotel followed by a transfer to the Kiruna airport. Alternatively, you can take a transfer to the train station and continue by train and bus to Tromsø to for example join our Northern Lights & Winter Break tour. It is also possible to add Abisko.
