Arrival in Reykjavik according to your own itinerary. Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland, is located 45 minutes from the airport. The Icelandic population consists of 320000 people and almost 60% of them live in the greater Reykjavik area. Reykjavik is the world’s northernmost capital and has a lot to offer for visiting travelers. During summertime, the city is very much alive as Icelanders and visitors love spending as much time outside as they can. You will see people sitting outside cafés or on a blanket in the grass. Accommodation in Reykjavik for two nights.
Breakfast at the hotel. You will be transferred to the domestic airport in Reykjavik for your flight to Ilulissat in Greenland (arrival at around noon). Ilulissat means iceberg in Greenlandic and the town is beautifully situated at the mouth of the almost 60 km long ice fjord, filled with enormous icebergs from the most productive glacier in the northern hemisphere. After check in at the hotel, you will get a short introduction of your tours in Greenland and optional activities. Afterwards you will enjoy a 2-hour walking tour in the center of Ilulissat where a local guide will tell you about modern life close to the Arctic Circle. Dinner and accommodation in Ilulissat.
Breakfast at the hotel. You will be transferred to the pier in Ilulissat where you will board a boat and start a whole day cruise (sail is 6-12 hours, depending on the boat sailing that day). You are able to stay both indoor and outdoor on the boat. During the boat trip a guide will inform about interesting things to be seen from the boat. Whales and seals are often spotted. The main mission with the cruise is to see the beautiful Eqi Glacier. The boat will sail to the very edge of the glacier's frontline which rises 80-90 meters above the surface of the ocean. For this excursion it is important to remember to dress warmly as much of the experience will be outside on the boat deck. Lunch and afternoon snack will be served on board the boat. When the boat returns to Ilulissat you will be transferred back to the hotel. Dinner at your own leisure this evening. Accommodation in Ilulissat.
Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning you will join a guide for a hike to the old settlements of Sermermiut. Here you will hear stories about life and customs of the Greenlanders before European arrival, whilst enjoying incredible views of the icebergs in the fjord. The afternoon is at your own leisure so you will have time to join optional tours like whale watching or helicopter tours (please note that all optional tours are bookable and payable on spot). If you prefer to take the day easy you can stroll around the town and visit museums and go for a warm drink at one of the town's cafés. Dinner at the hotel. Accommodation in Ilulissat.
Breakfast at the hotel. Morning at leisure in Ilulissat which you can for example use to walk around the town, do some shopping or join a short helicopter tour across the Ice-Fjord (booked and paid on spot). Around 11:00 hrs you will be transferred to the airport for your flight back to Reykjavik in Iceland where you arrive in the late afternoon. Dinner is on your own this night so you can try one the of the great restaurants Reykjavik has to offer. Accommodation in Reykjavik.
