Cruise to Drottningholm Palace
Step aboard a boat from the turn of last century and take a trip to the pearl of Lake Mälaren, Drottningholm Palace, the residence of the Swedish royal family. Drottningholm is set in luxuriant landscaped grounds and Drottningholm Palace Theatre is a piece of genuine Swedish cultural history, the Chinese Pavilion a work of art constructed by the hands of master craftsmen.
Drottningholm was named after John III who constructed the palace for his wife Katarina Jagellonika. The palace burned down in the end of the 15th century and the construction as we see it today was continued by Hedvig Eleonora’s architect Nicodemus Tessin in 1661. Many royalties have since then contributed with their unique touch to the palace.
The palace is on UNESCO’s World Heritage List; it is Sweden’s best-preserved palace built in the 16th century representing European royalties and architecture from that era. While cruising you can eat lunch or dinner onboard or just relax while enjoying the beautiful landscape.
Cruise to Sandhamn
Experience one of the most astonishing surroundings in Sweden, the Stockholm archipelago! With its 24 000 islands, the archipelago is a unique place to visit all year round. At some islands, there are picturesque cafés, restaurants, hotels, hostels and farms, while other islands are totally deserted and have a natural beauty. A tour in the archipelago is for most people a totally unforgettable experience.
During the cruise you will pass through Strömma Canal. The canal, which is several hundred metres long, join narrow waterways of the inner archipelago to the open waters of the outer archipelago. A canal-cruise is something special. Water-reeds sweep the hull and sometimes it seems as though the surrounding countryside is only at arm’s-length distance. Variety is the rule of the day. The quick changeover from a canal’s sheltered waterway to the cool sea breezes in the outer archipelago is a feature of this particularly varied cruise. A guide will describe the route as you cruise for 3 hours to Sandhamn, where you will have 2 hours at leisure. You can stroll around at the narrow streets in the small village, have a look at the boats in the harbour or visit the boutiques, restaurants, cafés etc. You can also choose to follow the guide on a walk around the island.
M/S Strömma Kanal is the only vessel, which can pass through these shallow waterways. In a saloon at the stern of the boat the chef will gladly tempt you with a summer-menu’s delicacies straight from the kitchen. There is also a cafeteria on the boat and on the sun deck where you can enjoy the views and the fresh air.
Thousand Islands Cruise
This morning you will embark on a full day cruise in the amazing Stockholm archipelago. The archipelago of 24 000 islands is located just outside the city and the best way to explore it is on a cruise of the inner and outer parts of the archipelago. The English speaking guide and friendly staff will make sure you have everything you need, while telling you about the places you pass along the way as well as giving guided tours of the islands you visit. There is also time to go for a swim and sun bathe or stroll around the islands at your own pace.
Onboard the lovely ship Waxholm III, which was built in 1903, you will be served coffee, lunch and dinner in the beautiful dining room. All the meals are prepared with fresh products delivered every morning and cooked to order. At 8.30 pm you will arrive back in Stockholm.- July 2 – August 14, daily
