Arrival in Reykjavik according to your own itinerary. Please note that airport transfer is not included but can be booked separately, see add-ons for more details. Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland, is located approximately 45 minutes driving from the airport. The Icelandic population consists of only 320.000 people and almost 60% of them live in the greater Reykjavik area. Even though Reykjavik is not a big city compared to other capitals of the world, it has everything a cosmopolitan city should offer; great dining, unique boutiques, shops, museums, theaters and a vibrant nightlife during weekends. Breakfast at the hotel. Spend the day at your own leisure in Reykjavik and visit for example the Hallgrimskirkja Church to get a get a panoramic view over the city from the top. Perhaps you wish to visit the city's biggest swimming pool where you can swim and/or relax with the locals in the hot tubs. Or you might want to use the day to book some day excursions or sightseeing tours, see more details under add-ons. During the evening you will go on a 3-hour guided Northern Lights tour and drive away from the city lights to search for the Northern Lights. The Northern Lights, also known as the Aurora Borealis, are a spectacular natural phenomenon, often seen dancing around in fantastic colors across the Icelandic Arctic sky. Breakfast at the hotel. Today you will go for a full day guided coach tour that includes stops at some of the most known nature attractions in Iceland. The tour, known as the Golden Circle, includes stops at three known nature sites in the Southwestern part of Iceland. First stop will be at Þingvellir National Park, where the continental drift between the Eurasian plate and the North American plate takes place. The second stop will be at the Gullfoss waterfall, one of Iceland’s most impressive waterfalls. The next stop will be at the Geysir hot spring area, where you can see a hot spring that spouts water up to 40 meters height in the air every few minutes. Before heading back to Reykjavik you will also make a stop at Skálholt church, the ancient seat of the Icelandic bishops and at an Geothermal Powerplant where you will learn more about how geothermal energy is used in a sustainable manner in Iceland.
