Arrival in Tromsø according to your own itinerary. The Arctic city of Tromsø is the world’s most Northern university town and the largest city in the Nordic countries north of the Arctic Circle. Due to the city’s location right in the middle of the planet’s Northern Light’s belt, Tromsø offers the world’s best chances of spotting the Northern Lights. During your stay in Tromsø you can choose from a wide range of winter activities (please see add-ons). We also recommend visiting the Polar Museum, with lots of different exhibitions about the Arctic. You can also visit the landmark of Tromsø - the Arctic Cathedral. Accommodation in Tromsø.
Breakfast at the hotel. Today is at your own leisure before the afternoon departure to Lyngsfjord. Tromsø is surrounded by mountains and we recommend taking the cable car up to the mountain Storsteinen, 420 metres above sea level. From here you have panoramic views over the city, the surrounding waterways and mountains. At 16:45 hrs it is time to travel inland by bus for 75 minutes to the wilderness camp ‘Camp Tamok’ where you will stay overnight. This evening you will join a dog sledding excursion, which will start by learning how to train and groom the dogs. You will get detailed instructions on how to drive a dog sledding team. Then you will drive the dog sled into the white winter landscapes, through the beautiful valley of Vass, a total distance of 16 km. The area is totally uninhabited and the speed of the dogs will impress you. You will drive in pairs, one driver and one passenger on each sled, with the opportunity to switch places half way. In good conditions, you have excellent chances of seeing the Northern Lights. When you arrive back at the camp a hot meal will be served in the Lavvu. Tonight you will stay in a traditional Lavvu (Sami herdsmen`s tent), in a shared cabin or in a chalet (please see hotel description for further details).
Breakfast at Camp Tamok. After breakfast you will have a thorough safety introduction on how to drive a snowmobile before heading off for a 2-3 hours long safari. The snowmobile safari will take you to remote inland valleys and mountain areas together with a skillful guide. You will drive through the valley of Finn and to the lake of Tamok, a distance of 15 km per way. You will be driving in pairs, one driver and one passenger on each snowmobile, with the opportunity to switch places half way. Due to the dramatic topography reduced speed is held during parts of the tour. On flat land and frozen lakes you can speed up. There will be opportunities for ice-fishing if permitted by time and weather conditions. When you get back to Camp Tamook lunch will be served before your transfer back to Tromsø. You will be back in Tromsø at approximately 16:00 hrs. Departure from Tromsø is according to your own itinerary. Should you wish to stay another night in Tromsø, please see Add-ons for the additional costs for extra nights in Tromsø.
