People from all over the world have travelled with Authentic Scandinavia, and we are truly grateful that so many travellers are sharing their travel experiences with us. We also hope that the feedback will make it easier for other travellers when considering which tour and tour type to book.
"The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page" - St. Augustine
We had a wonderful time in Scandinavia. Our hotels were very clean and central, and the ferry was excellent fun. The itinerary you sent us was also very useful.
We would definitely be interested in travelling with Authentic Scandinavia again. Do you do any trips to see the northern lights?
Thank you so much for making our trip so special.Louise Gallagher – UK
We have had the most fantastic time on the Three Capitals Tour. It has been a truely unique and fantastic honeymoon. From the time of booking, to ending the tour, Authentic Scandanavia has been faultless.
The information provided was thorough and incredibly useful. We checked out the 'top 10 recommended sights', ate in some of the recommended restaurants (and agree entirely that those restaurants warranted recommending), and found the itinerary and useful information incredibly helpful. The hotels were all centrally located and the rooms comfortable. To be honest, I was impressed with the quality of accommodation provided; it more than exceeded expectations.
The quality and detail of the information provided by Authentic Scandanavia gave me comfort. In fact, it felt as though we had our own personal tour guide but with the independence to do as we pleased!
I was hesitant about booking with Authentic Scandanavia from the outset, simply because it was not a recognised UK tour company. However, I would not hesitate to book with Authentic Scandanavia again, and have already recommended them to friends and family (we have been home less than 24 hours!). I received a better service from Authentic Scandanavia than any UK based tour company.
Once again, it was a fantastic and memorable experience. A few days in each city was enough to give us a glimpse into each, all 3 of them with so much to offer, and so different from one another. We now cant wait to return to return to see the rest of the countries.Tamsin & Douglas - UK
We had a truly wonderful holiday, and were so impressed with the smooth and efficient running of the whole system. The hotels were all lovely; the towns and cities beautiful, and the transport links worked perfectly. Although, sadly, we did not see the Northern Lights, (too much cloud on Friday night), we have memories and photos of some really beautiful scenery, and very friendly, helpful people.
I need to point out one small detail. In Flam, everything really was closed for the winter. We weren't bothered about the limited shop opening times, but it was rather difficult with the lack of restaurants. We ate at the hotel cafeteria at lunchtime...as the cafe on the fjord boat was closed, we were rather late eating, so we had a burger. In the evening, the only option was the pub next to the hotel, and all they had on offer was more burgers, fish soup and spare ribs! So we had to go to the small supermarket to buy bread and cheese...as we were still full of burgers. I think, really, we should have checked the pub menu before we had lunch, but we weren't expecting such a small selection of meals.
Apart from this, we had lovely meals, and particularly enjoyed the Italian restaurant at the First Millennium Hotel in Oslo.
We have mentioned your company to our friends. We think you offer exceptional value, and would certainly travel with you if we decide to visit Norway again.
Thankyou for a well planned, exciting holiday!
Hi Trude, thank you. We had a wonderful time in Scandinavia and were very pleased with all the arrangements. Mind you we expected nothing less, due to your efficiency prior to our leaving! We were happy with everything. The only comment we would make is the choice of the First Hotel Vesterbro. Being Australian of course we look for more of an old world feeling so it would have been nice to have been located in the old town. A very small point really.
We were impressed with the developments taking place in Oslo and the care taken connecting new developments to the harbour. The Opera House was a standout too. Sorry we didn't get the chance to meet. We will recommend Authentic Scandinavia to others. Many thanks.Joy & Robert Howman – Australia
I am writing to thank you for all of your great work to ensure the perfect Scandinavian vacation. My vacation was absolutely flawless. I appreciate that you worked so quickly to accommodate all of my requests and you provided a great deal of clear and helpful information for the trip including sightseeing travel tips. Your communication was so prompt. We booked the Scandinavian capitals package. The Hotels were excellent, the breakfasts were excellent, the DFDS ferry was excellent, the train tickets were perfect. I really enjoyed Copenhagen, Oslo and Stockholm. I cannot thank you enough. Sincerely,Vincent Graffeo – USA
Just recently you arranged a tour of Scandinavia for my wife and me...Robert Gurba. Let me say, "Everything was excellent and there were no problems!" You did a great job in arranging the hotels, train, and ship. I must admit that at first I was a little bit worried about using the Internet to make our arrangements, but you proved me wrong. Thank you once again on behalf of my wife and myself. The beautiful memories and experiences that we had during our trip are due to you.Robert Gurba - USA
I would like to thank you for all your efforts in ensuring us the best and most hassle free holiday. Your guides, information and suggestion helped us to have a hassle free experience in Scandinavia. I would not hesitate to recommend your company to any of me friends.
Regards MonicaMonica Gray - Australia
Thank you very much for all your help and making our holiday an excellent and enjoyable one. The organisation of the trip, the hotel quality, the proximity of the hotels to train and bus depots etc. were excellent. The scenery was breathtaking and the cities of Bergen and Oslo were absolutely lovely. I have absolutely no complaints only compliments and thanks again from me and my family.W. O’Sullivan - Ireland
Takk! I am sorry to be delayed in my response and gratitude for your work to make my trip so excellent. I would love to make a return trip to Norway – this time with some of my family.
The trip planning was marvelous. The hotels in Oslo and Bergen were excellent and the travel plans worked wonderfully well. The hotel in Geilo did not come to meet me at the train but your good guide provided me with the phone number so I was able to find a phone to call them. Even the weather cooperated during my visit. It had been cloudy before we got on the boat at Flam but the sun came out and added to the beauty of the setting. It was a remarkable trip.
I will happily recommend Norway in a Nutshell.Joy Peterson – USA
Thank you for your kind email and indeed all of your help in planning the trip. I thoroughly enjoyed your beautiful country and sincerely hope that will not be our last time seeing it! I particularly enjoyed Geilo and the accommodation was lovely. The only problem was our time was too short!! I didn't realise I would have wanted to stay longer!
Thank you again for everything.Alison Whelan – Ireland
We enjoyed very much our stay in Norway. Wonderful and impressive landscape! And nice people. Everything was well organized, and the hotels were good. Only one remark: Could you tell before that there is a swimming pool and a sauna in Bardola hotel in Geilo? Fortunately we got our swimming costume, so we could enjoy and relax. And also a gastronomic restaurant (so important for French people). In Geilo station, nobody was waiting for us, we took a taxi which was paid by the hotel: no problem. Everything was perfect (but life is quite expensive).Veronique Guerchais – France
We are just back to the usual pile of post and emails. When all settles down we will reflect on a wonderful holiday in your beautiful country.
I can only praise everything about the holiday, the hotels, friendly staff, stunning scenery, and most of all your swift reaction to our initial travel disruption. We toasted your health at the dinner so kindly offered by yourself.
I am very impressed with your business model and how well it works. If we are going to Scandinavia again we will be in contact.Patrick O’Donnell - Ireland
Thank you for your e mail.
We were really pleased with our recent trip, our first time in Norway, though not our first time in Scandinavia.
We enjoyed all aspects of the tour, but especially our time in Bergen and in Oslo.
The hotel and travel arrangements could not have been more straightforward, and the links were effortless and convenient. The central locations of the city hotels were particularly useful.
The open and friendly manner we experienced in dealing with Authentic Scandinavia was refreshing, and we would recommend you to our friends.
We will definitely use your company on any future visit to Norway.
Thank you for your attention. Yes, we had a great time in Norway, although it’s schizophrenically expensive. But I think it was the only downside in our journey.
The Norwegian coastline is really impressive and being seen from the Hurtgruten vessel was even better. We liked every aspect of the cruise: landscapes, good food, nice crew, a comfortable cabin…
And, the best thing, our attempts to see the Northern Lights were crowned with success. Unforgettable. We experienced it nine times!
We also loved the Norway in a Nutshell tour.
We must thank Anja Jenssen from Arctic Pathfinder for meeting us so early in the morning in Tromsø airport to return the camcorder we forgot in her car. It was very kind of her.
I think the breakfast we had in Thon Hotel Opera was the best I’ve ever had in Europe.
Well, these are the standouts I could remember. And I have to thank you all from Authentic Scandinavia for the suggestions and for the successful accomplishment of our journey. We are strongly considering returning in the summer of 2014 for the midnight sun.Éder Abreu - Brazil
We returned from our "Norway in a Nutshell" tour last night, and wanted to tell you what an absolutely fantastic time we had. Everything was great and so well organised, the whole journey ran like clockwork. The Hotels that you selected were perfect in the location and the standard of accommodation. The scenery was breath taking and some of the most stunningly beautiful we've seen.
So we would like to say a huge tusen takk to you and all the team at Authentic Scandinavia for one of the best and most definitely the most memorable holidays that we have ever had.
My husband has already written to you saying how much we enjoyed our Scandinavian holiday. I would like to add my appreciation for the meticulous instructions you gave us as to how to find our hotels etc. It was impossible to make a mistake. Everything was so clearly explained and every detail clarified. We were impressed by the cleanliness of all the Scandinavian capitals so unlike the position in London today. Also the super efficiency of the public transport systems was most impressive.
We found the cost of food very high and even more so wine which is so inexpensive and of such a high standard in South Africa. We noticed that some our less good varieties were sold there at astonishingly high prices.
We found the people in all three countries so friendly and helpful when we asked for directions. The service industry likewise was first class. Denmark, Norway and Sweden must have some of the finest scenery in the world and the architecture was quite lovely.
Thank you again for your efficient and helpful advice to us at every turn.SP – South Africa
The architecture and ambience of the three cities is profoundly beautiful; Bergen is a delight. The scenery of Norway was breath-taking. We were fortunate that we had rain on only for a few hours one morning while in Scandinavia.
All the hotels you chose were excellent in location and facilities. Form your detailed step-by-step instructions we never needed to hesitate as to what we should do next.
Of your creative planning and meticulous organization I have nothing to say except "thank you".PP – South Africa
The trip was fabulous from beginning to end! We had perfect weather except for some rain the night we were in Geilo; otherwise, blue sky and sun were the order of the day. Our accommodations were both convenient and comfortable and the hotel staff most pleasant and helpful. The itinerary which you had set up worked like clockwork. What can one say about the breakfast buffets---everything one could want, beautifully displayed and scrumptious! We were quick shocked at the cost of restaurant dining; perhaps suggestions about more reasonable restaurants would be a helpful addition to the itinerary.
I had two experiences that made me appreciate the honesty of some Scandinavians. In Oslo I discovered that my camera was missing and when I retraced my steps found that it had been turned in at the Munch Museum Cafe. Please be sure to convey my thanks to them for helping to confirm my faith in the goodness of people! The other experience in Stockholm had a happy ending, too. The hotel had called a cab for our transfer to the airport and gave us a confirmation number. When the cabbie began to load our luggage into his vehicle, a hotel employee ran out to stop him since he was one of those cab drivers you had warned us about who would have grossly overcharged us. Our cab came while the "cheater" was there and a loud "disagreement" took place. We were so glad that both the hotel and our rightful cabbie were "on top of things".
We have traveled quite extensively in the U.S. and Europe and would not hesitate to recommend "Authentic Scandinavia" to anyone. We enjoyed the independence it gave us to see the things we wanted to see and not feel like a member of a herd being shuffled about. We used public transportation as well as lots of walking to get us places and the fact that English is spoken and understood everywhere helped us too.
Thanks again for such a memorable vacation! The DiLorenzos & The Albaneses - USA
I am finally sitting down and make some time to let you know how much we enjoyed the trip you prepared for us. It was fantastic!! I have given your web-site to many of my friends. Even when we were in Scandinavia we mentioned your web-site to other tourist. Yes, we have been very pleased with your service and we are looking forward to coming to Scandinavia again.
PS. My husband was very impressed with the wonderful breakfast we had in the hotels, the most outstanding was the hotel in Stockholm.Henriette & Bill Brecheisen – Netherlands/USA
Brian and I have returned from our memorable Scandinavian vacation. We visited family in Denmark in addition to seing majestic Norway and the beautiful city of Stockholm. We want to say a heartfelt thank you to you and to "Authentic Scandinavia" for the wonderful "Fjord Plus Stockholm" tour. The itinerary and the arrangements made were completely accurate. The written instructions were easy to follow, and they always led us to where we needed to be during each phase of the tour. The incredible beauty of the valleys and mountains of Norway, with their endless waterfalls and lakes, is a memory we will always have.
Whenever we asked people along the way for directions and information, unfailingly they were very friendly, thorough, and above all, accurate. We noticed that everyone took the time to get out a map and to say , "You are here and here is where you need to go." Several times we were allowed to take the map with us. We feel befriended by the native Norwegians (and Swedes and Danes, too.)
We would like to particularly thank you for arranging our stays very near the central stations of each city. This was very convenient for us, saving time and money. We really enjoyed our accommodation at the Thon Opera Hotel in Oslo. This is one of the finest, if not the finest, hotels in Scandinavia. There is a minor issue which we would like to draw your attention to. It was our understanding that the hotels at all locations would have twin beds. This was true for the Bardola in Geilo and the Thon Opera in Oslo. However, this was not true for the Grand Hotel in Bergen and for the Rica Stockholm in Stockholm. To be fair, there were separate sets of bedsheets even though there was one bed.
Again, Brian and I want to extend our heartfelt congratulations to "Authentic Scandinavia" for making our first European vacation so exciting and memorable. We already are mentioning our positive experience with "Authentic Scandinavia" to family and friends.
My daughter and I were absolutely delighted with our tour in Norway and Sweden arranged by Authentic Scandinavia. This level of assistance was just right for us, as we both love to walk around new places, taking photos and deciding on whim what to do next. The hotels were very nice indeed, with great central locations within easy walking distance of so many of the sights and museums we wanted to see. The breakfasts were wonderful, we did try out all kinds of new breakfasts and were well-fuled for the day. We really appreciated your instructions on how to find the hotels by walking, the Top Ten Sights, how to find the Swedish Train kiosk in the Oslo train station, and how to use the Flybussen. We also enjoyed the stop-over in Gjeilo after the Norway in a Nutshell day, we were ready to rest and recoup after the excitement of that day. And I loved seeing the countryside from the buses and trains, between the city experiences.
We are indeed recommending Authentic Scandinavia to our friends. Our only regret is that we didn't have more time in Norway, for more travel up the Atlantic coast and into the fjords, and more time in the area around Oslo.
I would love to visit your wonderful country again and will not hesitate to explore more of your trip offerings.
First off I'm very sorry for not getting this 'review' or update on our experience earlier, but things have been busy as our trip also included Germany and Holland!
So, that being said, we are very very happy and very satisfied with the services you provided! To be honest we were of course looking for more a 'taster' of Norway and Sweden, as with the limited time we had there would have been no way to explore more in depth,...I think the main goal was to get excited to go back and explore the cities further, and we left feeling so amazed and absolutely fulfilled in this endeavor!....the way you had organized the trip was so well put together we had NO problems whatsoever in finding hotels, retrieving tickets, or getting from point a to point b...Stockholm was brilliant, vibrant and the weather was so amazing there! We took all the advice you printed on our itinerary and it worked perfect, like clockwork! The hotels were AMAZING....The Rica Hotel in Stockholm was brilliant in that the man that ran the restaurant Klara, attached to the hotel, was just the nicest and most caring host ever...while we were waiting to catch the train to Oslo in the lounge, he brought (for FREE mind you!) some coffee and still water for my mom and I,...he included free pastries/tarts for when we ordered dinner or just a late night snack. The staff at the Rica were amazing, so nice and very helpful! The FIrst hotel in Oslo, after the first night (there were a few issues getting into the room as initially the room they gave us had not been cleared by the cleaning staff), was amazing as well...the room was comfortable, the breakfasts were nice and filling...and the staff,...SO amazing, very nice, extremely warm and inviting! I have always said half the fun of traveling is meeting and talking to locals, whether it be hotel staff or just on the street, and the staff at FIrst hotel made that stay memorable. The Bardøla Hotel shuttle transfer was smooth and very easy, he was right there at the statin in Geilo...and he was once again, OH so nice! That's one thing that really impressed us about Scandinavia...the people...they welcome travelers openly! And at the hotel, the same thing...not only that but the hotel had such a nice quaint old oak ski lodge feel, which was a very nice change indeed. ANd the location could not have been more beautiful! The Flåm railway was BREATHTAKING. Mom and I were astounded at the amazing scenery. We'd gotten a recommendation from more American tourists in Stockholm who did the same Norway in a Nutshell Tour (in reverse, as they did Norway first then Stockholm) that Flåm had a brewery, and that if we had time (which you'd left plenty of so thank you for that!) and that we should go to that brewery (Ægir) and have a beer, and we did, and oh was it so good! Then the fjord cruise was once again, breathtaking....my camera probably could have broken or reached its final capacity, i took so many photos! The bus from Gudvangen to Voss was easy,...we did manage to get stuck in Voss for a period of time as the trains running to Bergen had lost power....but they finally brought the power back online and we were on our way...
Bergen is such a stunning city...it rained the whole time and it would have been amazing to see it in the sun (as a result we didn't do the funicular up Mt. Fløyen) but the rest of it was beautiful! And the hotel, the Grand Terminus was a beautiful old and graceful hotel....the staff, once again amazing...in particular the Whiskey bar...I spent a couple of nights down there and the bartender, Kenneth, was a fountain of knowledge and we just talked well into the eve til he closed the place up!....
So i think it's fair to say this has been one amazing and memorable trip, and so well organized my only concern was getting us to the train stations, etc. on time...I'm definitely going back for sure, and if I can get mom to go back, i know she DEFINITELY wants to see more of Oslo! (Oslo was her favorite, where as i cannot pick a favorite! too hard...)...
So anyway, thank you very much from the both of us, you really put together a well organized and amazing trip, I could not have imagined it having been more well planned...which allowed us the opportunity to not worry and just enjoy!
I would just like to say a very big thank you for a wonderfully organised trip. My parents and I greatly enjoyed our visit to Scandinavia. I would like to say how impressed we were with all the logistics; our hotels were lovely, the transfers between cities perfectly timed and all direction clear and easy to follow. We will definitely recommend Authentic Scandinavia for anyone wanting to visit the region. Thank your for all your help.SM - Italy
We have just returned to New York from our Scandinavian Tour. We just wanted to drop you a note to say thank you for all that you and your company did! Everything was perfect! From each of the hotel, directions, vouchers, locations of hotels from trains or boats - everything was perfect!
We we enthralled with every city. Thrilled by the icy boat rides from Copenhagen to Oslo and Stockholm to Helsinki. Enjoyed the snowy landscape between Oslo and Stockholm.
We are so happy with the tour - we would recommend your company to anyone!Michael Lonergan & Bill Beauchamp - USA
Thank you so much for planning such a wonderful trip for us! Everything was as promised: high quality hotels, wonderful central locations, and all connecting transportation (bus, ferry, train). I really appreciate the whole package you presented with the itinerary and vouchers. You included details of how to get to the hotel, how to get to the next destination (which bus, tram, or train to take, where to get it, where to exchange the vouchers for bus and train tickets) plus a list of the top attractions in each city. You took away a lot of the stress of travel by providing those details.
We had no problems with any of the vouchers. All the reservations were correct. I was impressed that all the hotels had our room ready when we arrived. I fully expected that we would not be able to get into our room until check-in time, around 15:00, but even when we arrived in the mornings, our room was ready. The Thon Hotel in Oslo was superior with a perfect central location for going everywhere! Their breakfast buffet was the best of all the hotels. They even offered to store our luggage overnight while we were in Flam. Excellent service. The Flamsbrygga Hotel was very comfortable with a beautiful setting along the fjord. The Crown Plaza in Helsinksi was very spacious. We had a very early departure at 3:30 AM to catch the bus to the airport for a very early flight home so we were not able to spend much time there. We would have enjoyed spending another night in Helsinki, but there just wasn't time in our schedule.
Overall, I was extremely happy with your service and how you were able to customize our trip with extra days where we requested and adding tours (Norway in a Nushell). I will happily recommend Authentic Scandinavia to all of our friends.
Just to let you know that we thoroughly enjoyed our Scandinavian leg of our holiday and that every thing ran very smoothly. The instructions given by your company were most useful and all of the hotels were of an excellent standard. The service in every hotel was very good. In Oslo for example, we were able to check in at 10.30am after the overnight ferry leg and this was most appreciated.
The hotel Crown Plaza in Helsinki was a little way out of the city and at first we thought this would be of concern given all the other hotels were in easy walking distance of the centre, however; it was easy to obtain a travel bus and it didn't become a huge issue. Also the room at the hotel Crown Plaza was probably the largest and best room of all the hotels, but all of them were excellent.
We certainly will be recommending your company to our Australian friends and family and hopefully one day can return ourselves to enjoy more Scandinavian experiences. For now, we have returned to an Australian spring/summer, at present as I type this, a warm 29 degrees C.
Your Company gave us a fantastic trip of Scandinavian countries. It was a life time cherished trip full of amazing moments.
The Trip was extremely well planned, most comfortable and has left everlasting memories for us.
Thank You to the complete Team.
We had taken 10 Days Scandinavian Capitals and Helsinki which was very nicely combined with Bergen & Sognefjord Experience.
We are now back in Australia after having the absolute best time in Norway. Thank you very much for your recommendations and assistance. The hotels were great and with fantastic locations, we visited the Viking ships, folk museum, Opera house and Ida in Oslo, Balestrand was the most magic place and Bergen was also splendid. The meal we had for our anniversary was one of the only times I have felt able to cheer the chef on all of the choices that we made (perhaps the Bollinger helped).
All in all, you have an absolutely magnificent country and we will most certainly be back.C&J – Australia
Trude, we just got back from our trip and I wanted to let you know that everything was perfect. We had a wonderful time and all the accommodations and transportation were great. All of your directions and additional recommendations were also very helpful. We loved the people and beautiful scenery. Thanks so much for all your help. I hope we can do it again sometime.Jim & Betty Knight - USA
We would like to thank you for creating a wonderful trip for us. Everything was perfect. Your directions were right on and easy to follow. The hotels were lovely. We thought Norway was the most beautiful country on earth and would love to return at some time.Mary and Michael Zongolowicz - USA
Thank you for your e-mail. We had a very pleasant journey throughout Sweden. This was our first visit there though not the first in Scandinavia and expectedly Sweden appeared as a perfect destination for nature lovers with its huge forests, countless lakes, clean air and waters. We enjoyed very much the experience that we had with Sami and our luck to be there exactly at the time when they collected the reindeer herds for marking the born during the year young calves. This was unforgettable experience which hardly a mainland European has a chance to see once in a life. We also enjoyed the chance to see beautiful midnight skies over Lapland with its magic orange-purple colours. Crossing and our stay beyond Arctic circle was very special and nice experience for us.
Regarding the organization of the tour me and my husband would like to thank you very much for the extensive, detailed and well structured documentation which was a perfect guide during our journey and required really very limited efforts from our side so that we can enjoy our trip rather than spending much time on planning, optimizing the route, times and places to visit. Also the choice of the hotels and services there was very good as well as the distances between them and railway stations were optimal.
For sure we will come back to Scandinavia and we would not hesitate to recommend your services to our friends and colleagues.
Kind regards from Bulgaria,
We used your services for our trip to Norway this July. It was perfect in every way. The hotels, the train, the adventures--It all went perfect. Your directions made it a perfect trip. Thanks,Debby Lovejoy – USA
I have traveled all over Europe and Norway was by far the most amazing and beautiful country that I have ever visited. I was very pleased with the tour. Your services were exceptional, from the quality of services, to the detailed and fool proofed itinerary. I will definitely be returning to Scandinavia in the future. Thank you for your professionalism and high level of service. I have nothing but the highest praises for Authentic Scandinavia. Once again, thank you for an amazing and memorable vacation.
I would like to begin with a huge THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Our vacation was as close to perfect as you can get, even the weather -of which no one has control of. Your company did a fantastic job of planning and coordinating, which insured an enjoyable and stress free vacation. Everything was as we had planned. Connections, directions, documents and accommodations were all set like clockwork. We were very impressed that you emailed us during our trip to alert us of a change. That was above and beyond what we expected.
We are SO VERY PLEASED with our choice of your company and the package we chose. We were a bit unsure of the "independent" travel, but it was easier to navigate than expected and definitely suited our travel personalities. The fjord adventure was a perfect match for us, the bike ride was one of our favorite things and the scenery on this leg of our journey was some of the very best on our trip. While in Voss we scheduled a kayak trip, which was also fantastic. We enjoyed being off the beaten path.
The Clarion in Oslo was a very nice hotel as were all the hotels you booked us in. Except for Fleischer’s, they all gave us an upgrade to a spacious suite or double room, which was very nice. We were so pleased that you booked us in the Radisson next to the airport. At the end of our journey we were tired and that was so convenient.
We were very glad that we had planned out all the details of our trip - the activities, accommodations etc. and pre paid them. It would have been overwhelming if we had to figure out everything once we got there. We also realize that group tours are not our style and we liked the freedom of independent touring, but liked the fact it was still all planned out in a way.
The Hurtigruten cruise was a fantastic experience. The ship was great and the scenery was unbelievable. We enjoyed our chosen excursions. The meal times on the ships were a bit unorganized and hectic. That would be the only negative of the whole trip but that is really insignificant.
sorry for the delayed reply. Hope you and your team are well.
We absolutely enjoyed our trip and would definitely plan to come back. I can only go forever complementing your country, and how beautiful and different (in terms of landscape) it is.
Specifically about the tour, we thought everything was so greatly coordinated. At no point we had to worry about places, documents or directions. It really helped to have detailed information on where to get what, specifically with regards to different modes of transport and recommended sightseeings. Also, I would like to mention that the choice of hotels and their proximity to stations was so convenient and appreciated. So thanks a lot for neat organisation!
I think the highlight of the tour for us was the biking in Flam, then fjord safari and rafting in Voss. It didn't feel overly touristic, was very fulfilling and memorable.
On the improvements side, it's really hard to suggest anything. So the only thing I can think of is adding suggestions (places) for lunch, especially for smaller towns like Voss as we had to circle it a few times before we found places to eat.
Once again, we enjoyed the trip from start to finish and would do it all over again :) We've shared the impressions with friends, and as a result they've booked a trip to Norway!
Massive thanks to everyone involved.
We are finally home from our holiday in Europe and thought we would write a brief note re our Oslo & Fjord Adventure Tour experience.
We thoroughly enjoyed the trip and would like to thank Authentic Scandinavia for their meticulous preparation, reliability and thorough approach to all the bookings. Everything ran like clockwork - people met us where they were supposed to; the itinerary was detailed and clear; and we enjoyed the places that you booked for us along the way.
The quality of feedback and collaboration from your organisation prior to departure gave us confidence and it was well delivered on the holiday. A special acknowledgement for the clarity of the website and the booking process - we were guided through a process that allowed us to change itineraries, break and then resume the tour part-way through, and add special tours - all without a hitch!!
Our thanks for creating a wonderful time in Norway. Please feel free to use this endorsement as a testimonial if you would like.Jenny & Gary - Australia
Thank you for your email, indeed we had a GREAT time in Scandinavia, except that we didn't expect to experience the hottest summer in Helsinki in 60 years. Indeed we took around 3,000 photos, yet we weren't able to capture all the beauty of Scandinivia. For sure we'll visit again to explore more as we had yet the time to go to the very north to see midnight sun and visiting Santa Claus.
Without your well organized schedule, the trip will not be as enjoyable and hassels free as it was. The connection of the transportation was thawless, no time was wasted on commuting between places. The slightly higher price that we paid for more upgraded hotel was well deserved. The location were very thoughtfully selected that commuting to train stations or ferry terminal was very direct. The healthy, full-of-selection breakfast at the hotels could supply enough energy to last us until dinner ---- saving money on lunch!!! One thing we must not forget to mention is your efficient arrangement to transfer our luggage from Bergen to Oslo with less than 1 day notice.
One suggestion we would like to make is that when recommend the point of visit in the itinerary, please include the bus/train number from the hotel to the point of visit so it is easier for us to find the way.
All in all, this "Scandinavia in a nut shell" experience is unforgettable, and we are already planning our "in depth" visit in the near future.
Last but not the least, we don't expect people living in such cold countries to be so warm and helpful!
Thank you once again for helping to make our 2-weeks holidays so unforgettable. Scandinavia, we'll be back!
P.S. I have already recommended a few friends to visit your website for their next visit to Scandinavia.
Our trip was absolutely perfect! Every piece of our itinerary was flawless. The directions we received were precise and correct. The accomodations were above our expectations. Thank you so much for everything. We are recommending your service to everyone who asks and who we think may use it. Thank you!Kelly Cebold - USA
We had the most wonderful time in Scandinavia! The beautiful cities, their rich history and the breathtaking scenery (especially with "Norway in a Nutshell") are captivating and definitely worth going back to! We love to go where the water is on our vacations and the Scandinavian cities have lots of it! Also, it was so amazing how one can conveniently travel across all three countries without having to drive your own car. Your public transportation system in Scandinavia: train, bus, boat, is awesome! Thanks for the excellent travel arrangements, everything went very well. Our whole trip was worry-free, your arrangements made the trip very convenient and relaxing (often it is hard to relax on vacations where you are traveling through many places within a set time, but your arrangements really afforded us a more relaxing travel of this type!).
The accommodations were nice, except perhaps the First Hotel Vesterbro in Copenhagen, that just did not come up to the quality of the other accommodations. The Thon Opera Hotel in Oslo had the nicest room, of course, although the breakfast in Clarion Hotel Sign in Stockholm beats them all in the breakfast category. Location-wise, you couldn't have made the hotel choices any better! Thank you also for arranging the extra hotel accommodations in Stockholm for us and for the information on flights from Bergen to Arlanda.
It is good to know who to contact next time we vacation in Scandinavia. Thanks again! One suggestion (not that important but would be nice to have) is perhaps to give tourists some information on suggested good places to eat in these destinations preferably close to the hotel or major places of interest. That will just save time for people looking and deciding where to go especially in places where dining choices abound and for people who like to experience the culinary aspects of the place.
Hope to go back! I agree with you, "the world is a book....". And truly, there is no substitute to actually seeing and experiencing other places!
I was just getting around to sending you an email when yours arrived!
We had a great trip thankfully well planned by your company. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Scandinavia and have already passed on the detailed itinerary to two friends for future consideration! The hotels were great and very conveniently located to the attractions and public transport! We enjoyed the cities but as rural people the highlights were the Flam railway, restful Flam itself and the Fjord cruise! Your tour has just the right combination of city time and countryside exposure especially as a first visit so don’t change anything!
We are already looking at a return to Norway sometime in the future but this time we will rent a car and spend more time seeing the beautiful countryside.
Overall this trip will be remembered as one of our best and a great deal of that stems from the fact that we booked it through Authentic Scandinavia!
Thanks againMr & Mrs Glavine - Qatar
I want to thank your company for helping me to plan a very enjoyable trip to Stockholm, Copenhagen, Oslo, and Bergen. From start to finish, Authentic Scandinavia's professional staff, pre-paid voucher system, detailed itinerary, and helpful information ensured a trouble-free, 2-week adventure for my husband and me. All of the hotels we stayed in were located in the center of each city and were comfortable and very convenient to transportation and many points of interest as promised. We also had the opportunity to meet some very interesting Scandinavians, especially during our train travels and overnight boat cruise, as well as Americans from several states. I have already told family and friends about your unbelievably detailed and accurate itinerary and will continue to suggest Authentic Scandinavia to anyone considering a trip to your part of the world. Many thanks again for a vacation with just the right amount of structure, flexibility, and beautiful memories!!Karen & Arnold Jones - USA
It's a coincidence that this morning I started to go through hundreds of emails that piled up on my computer over the last eight weeks and found yours to be the most recent. You asked how we enjoyed the tour; I could sum it all up and say it was marvelous. My wife and I have traveled all over Europe during the 13 years we lived in Germany but we never got to Norway. That was a shame because Georgia's grandmother was 100% Norwegian from the area near Lier. The arrangements you made for us were excellent. From the Hotel Opera across from the train station to every other hotel and transportation connection everything worked perfectly. We were impressed with the warm welcome we received at each hotel and found the accommodations to be super. We especially appreciated the nice breakfast buffets at each hotel. Your suggestions for side trips were great. Needless to say we got some really fine photos. I have to add that we were blessed with sunny weather almost every day. I think that was unusual for us in that we had been warned to expect lots of rain. It was drizzling the morning our flight arrived in Oslo but that gave way to sunshine when we started a city tour. The only day during the tour that it rained hard was the morning we departed Bergen. We took a cab from the hotel to the bus station. It poured down during our bus trip to the boat connection at Norheimsund but by the time we reached Ulvik we had sunny weather again. The only sad part of the trip was Aunt Katy's emergency surgery that prevented her from joining us; but we overcame that by bringing my oldest daughter Dawn along with us. I have already highly recommended your organization and the professional way you responded to all our needs. Thank you again for everything,Anthony Zugay - USA
Thanks for your mail. I was going to contact you anyhow to say that we had a really great time and to thank you for putting together such a good itinerary with very accurate and 'user friendly' directions. Everything worked perfectly, including the weather! I am sure that we saw everywhere at it's best, being bathed in glorious sunshine for most of the time. Everyone was very friendly and helpful and all the hotels good. Thanks for the upgrade at Kviknes - we had a very special view from a room with a balcony, which was really good.
All the travel worked perfectly, with all the connections going to plan. We particularly enjoyed the boats, of course.
We would certainly consider returning to Norway - once we have saved up some more and the exchange rate is more favourable!! Thanks again and kind regards
Thank you for your note below.
The tour organized by your company was excellent. The diversity of experiences provided us with a wonderful introduction to Norway.
As someone who does over 100,000 miles of air travel a year to all parts of the world, I was extremely impressed with how perfect were all of the travel arrangements and bookings. There was not one problem within the entire itinerary.
We have already recommended your company to a friend who will be travelling to Norway this fall.
Thanks again.J. Liswood - Canada
Thank you for your mail. In fact I was thinking of writing you to say how much we enjoyed our stay in Norway. The fjords landscape is breathtaking; the cities are very pretty and with a welcoming atmosphere. The tour itinerary was very well balanced in terms of sites, scenes and opportunities offered. On top of this, the nice weather and good food, made these holidays one that we will always remember, for the good memories we keep.
We want also to congratulate you for the efficiency of all the travel arrangements. We did not have any problem in finding our way. We would like to go back to Norway one day, for sure.Maria & João Crespo - Portugal
Our visit to Norway was wonderful! The weather was sunny and in the mid-70s most of the time, which made our outdoor adventures so enjoyable.
Everything that was planned went perfectly, and using the vouchers was an easy way to navigate the country.
The hotel in Sogndahl gave us a beautiful room, but with a very large window, facing west. Because they do not have air conditioning, the room was very hot, with the sun heating the room all day. We did our best with the small window opening and fan, but it was hot most of the night.
The Augustin Hotel provided the nicest breakfast, and it was very convenient that they offered free laundry service, also.
We enjoyed the glacier hike the most, but the bike rides and boat rides were also fun. I am glad we chose this tour.
Norway is a beautiful country, the people were friendly and helpful, and the weather was perfect. Thank you for a wonderful vacation.Loraine - USA
Truly, thanks a million for your arrangements. Everything went so smooth, the weather was so beautiful, the places of interest were awesome and magnificent, in particular, the people were so warm and friendly. We were so impressed with the hotels, in terms of room size and convenience. We were extremely happy with the Clarion Hotel Sign in Stockholm (very spacious and contemporary), Thon Hotel Opera in Oslo (spacious and splendid), Framsbrygga Hotel in Fram (newly renovated, cosy with a sense of tranquillity) and First Hotel Marin in Bergen (very spacious, comfortable and extremely convenient). The breakfast of all hotels were superior and of great choices. Both inter and intra country transportation were easy and we didn't have many problems in getting around. We tried the best restaurants in each city (Sundmans in Helsinki, Grand Hotel Stockholm smorgasbord, Lofoten in Oslo, Enhjørningen in Bergen), the food was so gorgeous though a bit expensive. The train and bus tour from Oslo to Bergen was marvellous and our own excursion to Legoland brought us lots of fun. Trude, this trip really gave us very sweet memories and wonderful experiences of Scandinavia. Your kind arrangements and detailed information certainly are keys to success. We definitely will recommend your company to our friends should they plan to visit Scandinavia. Let me send you some pictures in separate files tomorrow to share our joy and excitement. Oh, when I write this mail, it seems like bringing me back to the tour again! Many thanks.Vicky Lee - Hong Kong
We got back from our extended vacation on July 29th. So we have been a little busy too! But, we would like to send you this short thank you.
Everything went very smooth, and the countries and cities we visited were beautiful. Everything you set up for us exceeded our expectations; the hotels, the trains, and the ferries where first class. The travel transfers were smooth and easy, the vouchers and itinerary were easy to follow and understand, and they were accepted without question. In other words, your work made our trip a pleasure, with no hassles or hang-ups. We will not hesitate to use your services again, or to recommend you to others. Our only wish is that we can stay longer next time. Thanks again for an unforgettable experience!
Thank you for your follow-up interest in our trip. Yes, we had a very enjoyable time seeing the Scandinavian countries, and for many different reasons. Some of these include:
The directions provided to the destinations were clear and easy to follow. The Grand Hotel was amazingly situated outside the train station, and the Flam hotel was especially gorgeous with its view of the fjord.
The hotels were comfortable with friendly staff, good service, and delicious breakfasts.
The trains had plenty of leg room, and the ferries were a relaxing break.
We enjoyed the freedom of traveling independently without being part of a huge tour group.
The voucher system worked flawlessly.
The Scandinavians generally speak very good English, so communication was not a problem.
We felt safe the entire time traveling through the Scandinavian countries.
The only updates would be the prices listed for bus fares; everything has gone up slightly in price.
My husband states that he would have preferred to leave Flam earlier than 3pm, arriving before 8:30pm in Bergen. But on the whole, we had a lovely time and are thrilled to have seen such beautiful and unique countries.
If we ever get the opportunity to travel to Scandinavia again, we would not hesitate to book through Authentic Scandinavia for our holiday travel. Thank you for all your help and friendly professional service. I especially appreciated your speedy reply to my initial queries.
We had a wonderful trip, and we are quite impressed with Authentic Scandinavia. All was very well planned. We knew the cities we wanted to visit, but not how to get from one to the other so easily. We like using the ships and trains, as well as buses. We might never have known about Norway in a Nutshell without you. It was a true highliglht of the trip. We never had any difficulties with hotels, tours, or connections. The directions were clear and helpful. Our hotels were very nice, and centrally located, as you promised. This is one of the best trips we have ever taken. We will tell our friends about you.Ann and Clinton Iles - USA
Our "Nordic Capitals and Fjords" independent travel trip fulfilled all our expectations, and more! Late May and early June is a perfect time to visit this beautiful part of the world. Even before we booked this tour, we had many email conversations with the very helpful Authentic Scandinavia staff. We added a day to each destination in order to have more time to see the sights. We were given detailed information to guide us between locations and to find our hotels and transportation. Using vouchers simplified our arrangements tremendously. The staff people at each hotel were very helpful and the Scandinavian breakfast buffets were expansive and tasty.
I highly recommend Authentic Scandinavia as a tour agent to anyone wanting to visit any of these countries.
To the staff at Authentic Scandinavia (especially Asta who helped keep all Sandvik cousins together).
Our trip was fabulous! Aside from bringing 7 cousins together from all over the US which was a very special time for us, the trip gave us a wonderful overview of the four Capitals. The "Norway in a Nutshell" and our extra two days in Bergen were the perfect ending to a fabulous trip. Two of us are still waiting for our luggage to show up from Copenhagen, but that is a whole other issue!
The only suggestion I would make for future travelers who are up in age (over 65 as we were) is to ask if they could handle the upper bunk bed on the ship crossings. We could not and had to pull a mattress down on the floor in already cramped quarters, but made do. Bookings for three people who all want their own bed is problematic in itself, but if none can handle an upper bunk bed, accommodations that cost a little more would be preferable.
Other than that, the trip went off without a hitch. The hotels were great, the trip down to Flam was such a change of pace from the cities, and oh so beautiful! And the fjord trip absolutely breathtaking. We experienced only a smidgen of rain during the whole trip and the weather in Bergen was postcard perfect. Cooler than our summers here in the US, but actually a welcome relief for me as it was 106 degrees when I left California.
Thank you all so much for making our trip of a lifetime (especially to Norway where our grandparents were from) for the 7 Sandvik cousins a reality that we will remember and treasure for the rest of our lives.
PS. Your itinerary and directions were perfect also and much appreciated!!JoAnn - USA
To all of you,
I want to thank you all for a perfect Scandinavian vacation. Everything worked really well. Your documentation was very clear and informative. I liked the detailed instructions to get to the hotels, trains and cruises. Your communication was excellent. We visited Norway, Denmark, Sweeden, Finland and Estonia during 12 beautiful days without any issues. The hotels and breakfast were very good and the trip to Tallin worth visiting. If I want to add anything to your documentation I would include the addresses to the restaurants. Sometimes I could not find the restaurant because I did not have the proper address. I love your Vapiano indication. Once again, thank you very much for a lovely trip that you helped in planning for us.
The Ungs Family - USA
My daughter Lydia and I had a wonderful time on our visit to Norway. We cannot compliment you and Authenic Scandinavia enough. The transportation was exactly right, the hotel accommodations were excellent and perfectly located for us to see and do everything we wanted to do. We do not care for guided tours, we prefer to walk every where and discover things on our own. The Thon Opera was just right there across from the opera house. My daughter is an architect and urban designer. She must have taken hundreds of photos of just the opera house (she took literally thousands of photos of everything else on our trip.) She lives in Seattle, which is a sister city to Bergen, so everything there was very interesting to us.
The weather was a little rainy and a little foggy on the bus ride to Geiranger, but, we loved it anyway. So beautiful. The best part of the whole trip was the people of Norway. Every where we went we met warm, friendly, (and beautiful) people, who laughed with us as we tried to learn the language, and then chatted with us in perfect English. Are all Norwegian children blonde and blue-eyed at birth? They seemed to be. It is a very beautiful country, filled with beautiful people and we could not have enjoyed ourselves more.
Again, thank you for the perfect trip. We would heartily recommend your company, you, and this trip to any one who wants to see the best of Norway.
With sincere gratitude,Barbara Callaghan and Lydia Heard - USA
Thank you for your welcoming. My first impression of Authentic Scandinavia was a very good impression. So I have nothing to complain in the way I was treated as your guest and client.
* The itinerary was good explained. Everything was easy to find.
* The hotels were also well selected. Depending on location and service.
* Transportation was well chosen. My personal highlight was the two different Hurtigruten boats, MS Trollfjord and MS Vesteralen.
Honestly, this was my third time travelling to Norway and surely not the last time.
For the next journey, when ever it will be, I won’t hesitate to contact you again.
Thanks for the email. Everything was really excellent. The trains, ships and buses were all absolutely punctual and all the connections worked well. The were times where there very close connection times with only a few minutes before the connections left so left little time for delays. As there were none it was not an issue. What could have been done if there had been delays and the connection was missed? The trains and buses were excellent, clean and well appointed with excellent service. The hotels were all clean and very comfortable and well located and staff helpful and polite. The Oslo card was excellent value and easily paid for itself. The itinerary was well balanced and gave a good view of the varying countryside. Highlights were the rail trips especially the ones from Bergen to Oslo and the Rauma railway.
The other highlight was the hotel at Geiranger. The location was delightful and the cruise on the MS Lofoten a lovely way to see the scenery. It was particularly nice to see how easy it was to get gluten free meals at the restaurants. For anyone such as me with this as a dietary problem food on holiday can present a real problem. All hotels were able to provide bread suitable for coeliacs and all the restaurants were able to offer sauces that were free from gluten. Should you be asked this question again by anyone booking you will be able to reassure them that it will not present a problem. All I had to do was explain the need to have the meal free from any gluten containing products and it was done. Being able to eat and knowing that it would be safe to do so really made the difference. The food was at all times of a high standard no matter where we ate. I hope the above is useful and if there is anything you would like to discuss in any further detail I would be happy to do so.
Thanks for preparing a wonderful itinerary for us and for a really memorable holiday in a truly beautiful country.Simon Gates – United Kingdom
My parents and their friends had a fabulous time in Norway, it had been my mom's lifelong dream to visit the Norwegian Fjords. They said everything in the tour was perfectly organized and were very happy with it. I have actually already been to Norway (Bergen and the Fjords) and absolutely loved it! Thank you for everything.D. Leyva – Mexico
Thank you for your e-mail! We truly had a great time, and the weather was really favorable. Our vacation is not over yet, but certainly the trip to Bergen, the unique railway and fjords made a very memorable part of it. There was no logistical issues during our trip.
Thank you again, we would be very happy to recommend your services to our friends and family.A. Bankov – Russia
We had an exceptionally wonderful time in Norway. The people are so nice and everyone took such good care of Mr. Hauchman who is disabled. The food was delicious and the hotels truly remarkably wonderful. All in all it was so great that my husband and I are coming back next year. We want to rent a vacation home around Bergen or the Sognefjord areas. Do you know anyone who deals with such rentals? Again, thank you so much for arranging this exceptional trip. My mother was thrilled about her birthday present.Gerlinde Wirzfeld-Olvera – USA
Trude, The trip was fantastic! The itinerary was perfect, accommodations superb, all transportation clean and efficient. The time allotment at the different sites was just right. The hotel in Bergen is in a perfect location to walk to the harbor, site see, restaurants, etc. The hotel in Balestrand is nice and the service is wonderful at both the restaurant and in general. They offer a nice service of holding and bringing your luggage to the ferry so that you do not have to take your luggage with you on the day-trips. Obviously, the scenery and fjords are just stunning. We had a great trip - cannot think of a better itinerary. Thanks for your help in organizing everything for us.Nancy Wechsler - USA
A short e-mail to thank you very much for your efforts in putting together our brief Norwegian tour.
Joyce and I thoroughly enjoyed the few days that we spent, from Oslo to Flåm, to Balestrand, and to Bergen. We especially enjoyed the Bergen railway, the Flåm railway and the trip to Fjærland. Your selection of hotels was perfect; we had possibly the best meal we have ever had at the magnificent Kviknes Hotel in Balestrand (amongst the jazz enthusiasts), but your choice of the Augustin in Bergen was also good, especially as we arrived in Bergen with high winds and rain, and needed a hotel near to Strandkaien!
But I would also mention that your itinerary guide was comprehensive and very clear on where to go and how to find the various travel points. Everything worked perfectly, and it really removed all the stress from our journey.
So many thanks again, and we will recommend your services to anyone who asks.
Best regardsTim Williams - United Kingdom
Thank you for your welcome back mail. We had a truly fantastic holiday in Norway and were overwhelmed by your magnificent scenery and great weather. Everything went according to plan and we found our guide and driver very friendly, professional and informative. The hotels were all very comfortable and we really enjoyed the great views from each room. The only glitch we had was that the taxi driver did not arrive to Bergen station to pick us up and instead went to the airport! We waited for 20 minutes and then got a taxi to the hotel ourselves. Anne-Marie our guide gave us a reimbursement immediately and gave the feedback to the taxi company. The train journey from Oslo to Bergen was also great and was a part of the trip that we wouldn't have missed. Thank you for all your help.Joanne & Damien Lee - Ireland
Sorry to respond somewhat late, but we had an extended vacation before returning home to find your message. We had a wonderful time on the trip in Norway and have told many of our friends about it. The bus trip (driving) was expertly done by our driver and the narration by the tour guide was very informative and enjoyable. Accommodation at the hotels and baggage service were very good. Food at the buffets was always plentiful. The only food and service not up to the standard was at the restaurant by the glaciers. We probably were also lucky with the weather in general. We will remember this trip for a long time.US & HS – USA
Thank you for your e-mail
We had, no doubts, a great time. We are very satisfied with the tour, everything was ok. The itinerary was a good one, even if, a day or two, a little tiring. The hotels were very good and extremely well located. We also expect "count with Authentic Scandinavia in the future".Mr & Mrs Silva – Portugal
My wife and I totally enjoyed a spectacular trip. There is nothing to complain about. Our tour leader, Anne Marie was great. The coach driver, Banta was the best driver I am ever ridden with. Our favorite part of the trip was touring the fjords and mountains with Anne Marie's stories and Banta's driving on the scenic roads. Everyone on the coach was very friendly and we hope to stay in.contact with them. The hotels were first class along with the meals. We will definitely use your services in the future if the opportunity arises.
My friend and I thanked you very much for the arrangement you've made. Although we didn't see the northern light but it was perfect! We regretted that we didn't stay longer in Tromso or to stay overnight in either Kirkenes or Honningsvag. Also we didn't buy the alcohol in Oslo airport duty free shop as soon as we arrived. It was unbelievable expensive. Perhaps you can give this as a hint to the next fellow travellers?
But anyway, we plan to go back again & I will keep your contacts in my address book.ET - Indonesia
Booked in combination with the Kirkenes Ice Hotel break.
We had a great time in Norway. Its a beautiful country with fabulous scenery and we were lucky enough to see the northern lights!
Everything that you arranged ran like clockwork and according to plan. The Hurtigruten ship was lovely and much more luxurious than we expected. I would definitely recommend a few days on board as it is a great way to travel and see more of the country, even though I did get sea sick!. We enjoyed all of the activities, especially the snow mobiling which was brilliant.
The information that you provided about the Ship, directions, local transport and attractions proved to be invaluable. Thank you! Once again thank you for arranging it.
Thanks for your E-mail. Yes, Indeed the tour in Norway was absolutely wonderful and fascinating!. I should specially thank Authentic Scandinavia for all arrangements. Everything was perfect!.
I had no problems anywhere with any of the bookings made by you, also I did receive Vegetarian food in Hurtigruten that I was keen on. I was quite happy with the food in fact in Hurtigruten.
I must say here the choice of hotels provided by you guys were excellent, Both Rica in Tromso and Thon Hotel in Kirkenes were at the best possible location, with very well furnished rooms. In fact, in Thon Hotel in Kirkenes, the furnishings were to the extent of being luxury. Although, this is not my first time in Scandinavia (I have been in Norway, Sweden and Finland several times before), this is the first time I had booked a whole package in Scandinavia and I certainly do not regret this. I would gladly contact you guys again, when I will be visiting Scandinavia in the future (which I surely will do).
I would gladly recommend Authentic Scandinavia to my friends.
Thanks a lot
Best wishes for a lovely Christmas and a Fantastic New Year filled with lost of success for you guys
Booked in combination with Winter Impressions of Norway (independent rail tour).
Just wanted to let you know we had a fabulous time in Norway. The trip went smoothly and we really enjoyed the quality of the accommodation, the hotel staff were all extremely helpful, Rica Victoria in Lillehammer on Christmas Eve were great, the dinner was awesome, well done to the staff who kindly stayed to serve us all, our first ever white Christmas.
The Northern lights came out briefly at Eric's farm near Tromsø, they are wonderful hosts. We had a hoot dog sledding, incredibly cold but it was lovely to warm up with a warm fire and a hot meal, my children laugh at the video of the sound and sight of 250 dogs sounding off on our arrival all anxious to go for a run. The cruise was luxurious and it was a lot of fun having a hot jacuzzi on deck in freezing conditions, thank goodness for the sauna, lucky us!
We were very fortunate with the weather being able to get around and investigate lots of places and seeing the gorgeous Northern Lights twice, the people were very polite, patient and friendly, especially with our English, a real credit to the strength of your nation.
We have many, many beautiful photos and wonderful memories so hope to return someday! Thanks for all your help, we'll certainly let friends know about your company if they head your way.Shelagh & David Griffin - Australia
Yes, we did indeed have a great time. All went well apart from at reception at Rica Ishavshotellet where we were told our booking had been cancelled but sitiuation soon resolved. Fantastic location for Hotel and staff most helpful and polite. Great meals.
Northern Lights at Holmesletta Farm:- Our hosts were most hospitable and this was an excellent introduction to the area past and present. Delicious home made cake.
Northern Lights Chase by bus:- The tour guide could not have been more enthusiastic to find the lights and assist us when we arrived, the lights were a wonderful show. Hot chocolate and biscuits most welcome.
Troms Villmarkssenter:- Great activiity everyone most helpful and superb meal.
Thank you for your attention to detail with our booking.
I just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed our stay in the north of Norway at Kirkenes. Everything went very smoothly and we were very well looked after by everyone involved. The Ice Hotel was not very busy, so we were able to choose our own rooms. We were also lucky enough to see the Northern Lights. Thank you for all your help.Janet Franklin - Australia
Thank you very much for your kind email.
I must thank you for a wonderful vacation. It was truly an exhilirating experience. We experienced a lot and came back with wonderful memories. When I reflect back to the trip I still sometimes feel that it was more of a dream than a reality. It felt really surreal to experience the arctic in such a way that we did. The hotels were excellent and the excursions were wonderful.
I am happy to know that you are busy booking trips and meeting requests for other customers, as I am sure that they will have the time of their life. When they call something a dream vacation, I never thought that it would literally feel like a dream.
Keep up the good work and we will definitely recommend you to colleagues and any person who is planning a trip to Scandinavia. It was joyful to have your skills place a fingerprint in our experiences :)
I was about to contact you to let you know that we had a fantastic time in Norway! Everyone was so friendly and helpful throughout the trip, it was a pleasure to travel. The transfers were easy and all went smoothly.
The dog sledding was great fun even though it was a blizzard, and the week old puppies were an added bonus! The sunset at the North Cape was spectacular, and then we saw the Northern Lights three nights running. What more could we ask for?
The cruise ship experience was also good and very relaxing. The food was excellent as well. The bed in the Rica Hotel was so soft and comfortable that I had the best night’s sleep for a long time.
So thanks very much for arranging our lovely holiday, as you say the memories will stay with us forever.Annette & Anthony Sparks - United Kingdom
What can I say? Everything was amazing! The hotels and the hurtigruten provided fantastic food, the staff were so friendly and talkative and became good friends with some of them, even had a chat with Paul the piano player about the lights! We saw the northern lights on 2 evenings and went husky sledding which made the trip even better! I even joined the polar bear society in Hammerfest, I couldn't resist! We did lots of sightseeing and went on all the excursions we were able too, there certainly wasn't a shortage! I was worried taking a small toddler along but the ship had a little playroom which kept her entertained as well as singing to the other guests on board! We would definitely love to come again we are thinking for the midnight sun next time.
Thank you so much for a holiday of a lifetime :)
Safely back in UK after a splendid trip through Norway. Many thanks for all the preparation done by you and everyone at Authentic Scandinavia.
Thon Opera was an ideal hotel well placed for arrival from the airport and good for expeditions around Oslo, the Oslo Pass was most useful and allowed us ten museum visits and frequent bus, tram and T-bane trips. We had two very successful days in Tromso in a great hotel, so thank you for your choice.
The Hurtigruten was a real experience and being on one of the oldest boats was really top-class, even though the cabins were a bit noisy! It was excellent to have such a close connection with the crew and access to the open wings for viewing the lights. The food and general attention to detail by the staff was really good.
The accommodation at Veines, Kongsfjord was really excellent, the pick up worked at 22.30 and we we soon in a glorious, well provided room at the guest house. Margarita's cooking and concern for our welfare was exemplary and we really felt special. The snow shoe-ing with Line Leistad was tremendous, she provided everything we needed down to the chocolate and hot drinks and took us on a breathtaking walk around the peninsular, supplying us with photos later by email. the area is beautiful at this time of year and we borrowed kick sledges to travel into the local village. Our trip back to Bervelag to meet the second boat was accompanied by a fine Lights display so we felt very privileged. An excellent venue which we can not praise highly enough, the attention to detail at the guest house was six-star, food was immaculately prepared from the freshest ingredients with love and attention and Margarita always had time for a chat, supported by Luigi, her husband.
The hotel, Thon in Kirkenes was again top class, staff were always ready to help and organise our excursions. We had a particularly good dog sledding afternoon with Sollia Gjestegard and Steffan, the chief dog musher. He really took care of us and ensured that we had a great expedition into the wilderness on the Russian border. Transit back through Oslo worked well and we really had a first class holiday so many thanks for all your work at Authentic Scandinavia in supplying us with such a great experience in Norway.
Thank you for your email. I had a truly amazing time on my Hurtigruten trip throughout Norway, and saw the Northern Lights on 3 separate occasions. All the accommodation booked was fantastic and the breakfasts superb. I couldn't have asked for anything more. As a matter of fact, I'm still in Oslo at the moment as I'm not ready to leave Norway!
Thanks so much for all your assistance in helping with every detail of my trip. I especially loved the dog sledding trip in Tromso; however spending New Years Eve' on the Hurtigruten boat and making many new friends was also a wonderful experience!
I will definitely be coming back to Scandinavia in the not too distant future, so will keep all your details if that is ok.
Thanks again and Kind Regards
We have just completed our trip to Norway, and I wanted to let you know that it was even better than I had hoped. This was a trip I had dreamed of for a long time, and I was afraid it might not meet my high expectations, but my fears were unfounded. And we have you to thank for your personal attention in helping us choose the boat that suited us (the Lofoten was PERFECT!). Plus, all the detailed information about every day of our trip made the connections run very smoothly every single time. Even the weather was good! So we thank you with all our hearts for a great once-in-a-lifetime experience. I'd be happy be a reference for a potential customer if you like, and I will recommend you to my friends and acquaintances, many of whom will probably want to take the trip after they hear of our experience.
Tusen takk!!J.H. - USA
thanks for emailing me. I was going to email you with my comments so this was a good reminder. I had a most wonderful holiday. I loved every minute of it. Norway is a spectacularly beautiful country and of course going in winter or almost winter just magnified the difference in scenery between Norway and Australia.
I found your company on the internet, had never heard of anyone booking with your prior to my booking. So as I left Australia I did wonder if I would get to the destinations and find that the vouchers didn't work. But on the contrary, I arrived at places, they had my booking, accepted the voucher and there was absolutely no problem. Your directions were very accurate and helpful. Because I arrived late in the night at Oslo, I was a bit concerned about catching the train although I knew you had written that the hotel was close to the station. I caught a cab instead and then found out how far out of Oslo the airport is and how expensive a cab fare is. So I guess you could add in something saying that the cab fare is expensive and that travelling on the train late at night as a single female is safe. But that is really pushing to find anything for you to improve.
When I arrived in Flam, I wondered for a little while if staying there overnight was overdoing it. Then I learnt about the walks and things and didn't want to leave. Sending my suitcase direct to Bergen and just taking an overnight pack was a great idea- again I wondered if I would see my suitcase but there it was waiting for me at the hotel. The Thon Opera Hotel in Oslo is nice. I think that it's location so close to the station makes it a good choice and it is not far to walk to see the main part of the city. Perhaps the First Marin hotel in Bergen is not so stand out when you first arrive but I stay in hotels every week with my work and I have to say that the room I had there was the second nicest room I have ever had. It was large and just had a lovely feeling to it. It's location is great too.
Everywhere I went in Norway people were helpful and friendly.
So I loved my holiday. The weather was overcast so I didn't get to see the northern lights so I do intend coming back some time in the future to try again. Trouble is I also want to try seeing Norway in spring or summer. I will definitely use your company again for trips to Scandanavia- I haven't sampled Sweden yet either. And I have a friend who is interested in going to Norway so I will recommend your company to her and to anyone else as well.
Sorry for the delay in responding until now, but I have just got back to Australia.
About the tour, I really can't put it in to words how much of a beautiful experience it was. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking. From the train ride up Sweden and above the arctic circle through to the magnificent fjords in Norway it was truly amazing.
In relation to the accommodation along the way - just fantastic. Very clean, some were truly old worldly.
The information pack prior to commencing my tour was very informative (especially the descriptions of how to find the accommodation).
I would like to make a special mention of your staff Lisa and Trude who were extremely helpful in the booking stage of my tour. They made it extremely seamless in preparing for the tour (especially with the time differences between there and Australia).
I would like to say a big thank you and if the opportunity arises again for myself or other friends come to your beautiful countries I will certainly promote your company.
All the best.Phillipa - Australia
The trip, Lapland Railway and Hurtigruten, was magical! We wanted to see Swedish Lapland and revisit Norway’s fjords, and the independent travel trip that we found, through the travel agency, Authentic Scandinavia, turned out to be an effortless way to make all the arrangements. They were extremely responsive to all communications and questions that we had through the website. We travelled via the Inlandsbanan, an historic train, up over the Arctic Circle. The train stops in some small villages for coffee, meals, and occasional sight seeing. Then we crossed over to coastal Norway and took the Hurtigruten Cruise Ship down the coast to Bergen from Harstad. Authentic Scandinavia provided all the vouchers for travel and hotels, and some excellent suggestions for restaurants while we were in Stockholm and Bergen. The itinerary they provided was very detailed not only in relation to the timeline, but also in regard to the hotels and areas where we were staying, and the special tours we had selected. We covered a lot of territory, and all of our connections and bookings flowed very smoothly. When we had difficulty arranging for one side trip prior to leaving, Authentic Scandinavia went to bat for us, so that we were able to confirm the trip in advance.
In Arvidsjaur, we participated in a walking tour with a Naturalist and enjoyed seeing many reindeer as we drove with him to the forest. We were able to forage through the forest, see reindeer roaming, and munch on blueberries and cloudberries that were just ripening. The lake we walked around was beautiful and we had coffee cooked over an open fire accompanied by delicious home baked cookies and muffins. We also did several of the available Hurtigruten trips including A Taste of Vesterålen, Lofoten Islands, UNESCO Vega Archipelago Tour, Walking Tour of Trondheim, and The Atlantic Road. While we totally enjoyed them all, we found The Taste of Vesterålen and the UNESCO Archipelago Tour to be extraordinary.
We look forward to returning to Scandinavia in the near future, and would be happy to book again with Authentic Scandinavia.J.L. and D.L. - USA
I intended to get in touch with to thank you for all the help you and your collegues gave me when booking this trip.
It was fantastic, my daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed it. We commented on how well the itenerery was put together and how well, clear and helpfull the instructions were.
We didnt expect all that we got (or maybe I didnt read it properly). We would not have seen or done half that we did if we didn't book a tour. So, thank you for the well-researched tour. We certainly had some dreams come true.
I could not fault this tour as it was great.
I am not sure that we will return to Scandinavia as once we have done a trip of a life-time we go on to the next one. If it involves something that your company offers, we will definitely be coming back to you. In the meantime, I will be recommending it to everybody I know.
Thanks once again.Alexandra - Australia
My husband and I booked to take the 16-day Grand Tour of Norway for October 2012. What a wonderful experience. We arrived in Oslo and found that the instructions from Authentic Scandinavian Tours were so good that it was impossible to get lost. All the hotels were of high standard and close to transport where applicable. The tourist season finished about mid-September so some of the tourist attractions were not open or had shorter hours. A lot of the museums are not open on Mondays but we arrived too late in the afternoon for them anyway. Next day we checked with the tourist information centre before going anywhere. We had purchased an Oslo Pass and a booklet was issued with all the off season opening times and dates etc.
The train and ferry trip from Oslo to Bergen was spectacular despite the weather being a bit overcast for some of the time. We arrived at the ship and were given our check in documents but found that there was only one boarding pass for me and none for my husband. We had a short discussion with the check in lady who said just board and ask the reception desk for your husband's pass and cabin key. This was done without any problems. We were unaware that the cabin had double bunks so asked reception if it was possible to have a cabin with lower bunks so we didn't have to climb a ladder to the top bunk. This was done without any fuss for which we were very grateful. As we didn't do the complete round trip we had what was termed half board. This meant we either went to the dining room for lunch and paid or went to the snack bar and paid. We chose the snack bar which we have no complaints about. This enabled us to eat lunch when it suited us. The food was of a very high standard both in the dining room and the snack bar. At dinner there is a set menu so everyone has the same 3-course meal but considering the Hurtigruten ships are primarily working ships this is very acceptable. Each evening meal was different. Wine is served if ordered but you do have to pay for this so don't think it is complimentary. The tours from the ship were very good and informative. The guides spoke English as well as several other languages. If travelling in the winter months I do suggest that you think about booking your tours on board rather than when you book your trip as some tours will be cancelled if insufficient people interested. You will be reimbursed on board the ship if you have paid your agent for a tour which is subsequently cancelled.
If you are considering a trip with the Hurtigruten line DO NOT expect to be travelling on a luxury liner where there are captain's cocktail parties, gala dinners etc because you will be very disappointed. You do not need evening wear just normal every day clothes suitable for the time of the year you are travelling. The upper levels of the ship are for passengers and the lower levels are for freight. The ships are working ships and make 34 port calls on every round trip. Some of these stops are in the middle of the night. We made a point of getting off each day if the ship berthed 1/2 hour or longer to walk the length of the wharf to get some exercise. The atmosphere is very relaxed, the food is good and the staff are of a high standard.
We cannot speak highly enough of either Authentic Scandinavian Tours or the Hurtigruten Shipping Line.Mr & Mrs Dirou - Australia
Everything was just perfect and for me this was the best first world vacations I ever had (trekking in the Himalayas falls under another category). If you ever need a statement to be published anywhere you can sure contact us. Me and Mr. Toro really, really loved the whole tour. Your country is magical and we received nothing other than friendliness and people willing to be just plain nice and helpful (starting with you).
Many good wishes for your 2014 and many thanks for the good job (which included making sure we see the Northern Lights. We did! YESSSS :-)
Thank you, we had an excellent and thoroughly enjoyable trip.
Firstly the Gota Canal trip was first class with excellent dining and attention from all the friendly crew.It was very relaxing and we thought it was an enjoyable way to see Sweden and certainly the lock system was most interesting. It was also good to disembark and walk around the villages and visit the museums etc.
Our hostess had an excellent command of English and all the staff were very professional but friendly.
The only change I could suggest is that after the first day to change the set seating. We did not particularly wish to dine with our own countrymen all the time.We were more interested in finding out about life in other places to our own.Everyone spoke English fairly well, but I suppose this is not always the case and not everyone is as outgoing as perhaps we are. If we had not had Swedish friends here in Australia to tell us about the Gota Canal we would never have known about it.Perhaps you/ Swedish Tourism should promote this journey more!
Secondly the Fjords and Hurtigruten trip was just as relaxing and enjoyable with spectacular scenery. The train trips, especially the Flam railway were exceptional and it was great to spend the night in Flam as this allowed us to walk around the town and hike up to the large waterfall closeby, and do some arts and crafts shopping and enjoy the fantastic raspberries your country offers.
The view from our balcony at the Flambrygga Hotel was superb as we looked directly out onto the fjord. We also thoroughly enjoyed the decor in the foyer and lounge at the Grand Terminus Hotel at Bergen and these were our favourite hotels.
The Hurtigruten trip was also excellent in every way.It was more luxurious than we had expected. It was very interesting and relaxing and though not as intimate as the Gota Canal cruise with so many passengers, we certainly saw some very beautiful scenery.
Thank you for organising these trips for us. We would not hesitate in recommending your tours to anyone.E.B. - Australia
We had an absolutely wonderful time in Norway. It is a really beautiful country and the trip was very well organized. We had no problems with anything. We enjoyed looking at our itinerary every day and having a "mini-adventure" that was a lot of fun. The hotels were all lovely and the breakfasts were great. We were very impressed with the dinner at the hotel in Geilo- the seafood was a real treat.
Many thanks again for everything and we will look forward to visiting Norway again in the future.
We just returned from our Norwegian holiday and I want to thank you for your efficiency. We had a magical trip and everything was perfect! Not one glitch in any part of our travels. Your country and people are incredible. We did most of your suggestions on our itinerary and found them all amazing. We would like to return again one day, maybe to see the Northern Lights.
Another point is that the combination of tours (Norway in a Nutshell plus Tromsø & Lofoten Island) that we used was perfect. Asta's suggestion was exactly what we were looking for. It allowed us to enjoy the beautiful cities of Oslo and Bergen, and to see the spectacular countryside. The drive to our a Rorbu in Reine and our stay there was the highlight of our trip.
I was a bit concerned that our flights during our trip would take away from our time in Norway. But, it was another interesting aspect and was easy to get to get to each airport.
We used Norwegian Airlines for our entire trip and also experienced ease of travel.Claudia & John Wright - USA
First of all I want to say thank you for the wonderful holidays we had.
The package you provided was exactly what we expected.
And the attention to the details was absolutely great.
We did not have any problems with the hotels or anything at all. Your directions and general information were superb. And we were blessed with the weather.
I would recommend your service to all my friends if any of them would be interested to visit Scandinavia.
Trude, thanks for helping put together a superb holiday for us! We have traveled extensively over the years and we think this was probably our best trip ever. We will recommend Authentic Scandinavia to our friends.
We have a couple of minor suggestions for making the itinerary even better:
* Offering the option of an additional day in the Lofoten Islands. We loved the red cabin you had reserved for us and we would have liked to have stayed an additional night. (Otherwise, you had the perfect amount of time for each location.)
* Suggesting the Gamelstad UNESCO heritage site as an alternative instead of the Ice Hotel. We decided to do this and it didn't add too much additional driving time over the scheduled plan.
* Suggesting the cable car in Tromso. While we didn't stop at the Narvik cable car station, the view from Tromso was spectacular.
But these are just minor suggestions and we can't thank you enough as this was truly a dream vacation! Thanks again.RG – USA
We had a fantastic time in Norway. First of all, we were so lucky with the weather. We realise that, like here in Ireland, the Norwegian weather is not guaranteed to be good in the summer. However, we had sunshine for most of the days and only on the last day in Oslo did it rain heavily, and this was not a problem as we were visiting galleries at that stage. Initially I was a little bit apprehensive about the trip itself as it would involve staying in so many different hotels along the way, but everything went very smoothly. We did not run into any problems whatsoever and all service was very good. The numerous ferry trips were really enjoyable, especially the longer one on the spectacular Sognefjord and Nærøyfjord. We were also especially delighted with our hotel room in Oslo with a view of the new Opera House, both for the first night and last two nights.
The itinerary turned out to be perfect for what we wanted to see, as we like to get in a lot of cultural sights along the way. I have listed them here:
Oslo: Opera House on the Sunday afternoon after arrival, Fram museum and Viking ship museum on Monday morning after collecting our car.
On the way to Lillehammer we chose a slower route and came across the Hadeland glass works by chance. This made for a very interesting visit and stop along the way.
Lillehammer: Maihaugen and Lillehammer Art Museum during full day in Lillehammer. Bjerkebaek, Aulestad in morning before heading to Roros with Ringebu stave church on the way.
Trondheim: Nidaros Cathedral and the Art and Craft Museum which had a fantastic temporary exhibition of mid-century modern design.
Urnes stave church
Bergen: Troldhaugen, Bryggen with Hanseatic Museum, and Bergen Art Museum
Oslo: Vigeland Park, National Gallery, City Hall
We were given individual tours in Bjerkebaek, Aulestad, and Troldhaugen by very friendly and interesting guides.
Looking back over the list I'm actually amazed that we got to see so many cultural sights. The itinerary was actually perfect from a time point of view with two night stays exactly where needed (i.e. Lillehammer, Trondheim, and Voss/Gudvangen). Our only regret was that we weren't able to stay in Voss (as it was booked out) as it added to our driving but this was not really a problem.
The one thing that surprised us were the high prices for eating out in Norway. However, we used this as an incentive to have a lot of picnics along the way and there certainly was no shortage of picnic areas in beautiful spots along the way! Also the hotel breakfasts were generally fantastic and really set us up for each day.
Overall, we thought that Norway offers a fantastic combination of natural beauty with many cultural sights along the way. We intend to visit again, and are keen to visit other parts of Scandinavia too.
In any case, I will certainly recommend Authentic Scandinavia to our friends. Booking the tour through you actually solved a major headache for us as initially, after booking our flight from Dublin to Oslo, we had thought of booking our hotels individually. We soon realised that it would be difficult to coordinate this with so many different places to book, and so were happy to find AS. Also the voucher system was really nice as it really simplifies checking in and out of hotels.
I would also recommend anyone booking this trip to allow for an extra day in Oslo, as we did, in order to see all the galleries, museums, etc.
Best regards, and thanks again, especially to Trude, who organised the trip.
BTW, I even got to swim twice, once on Farstad beach and once in (ice cold) Eidfjord.
As you can see we thoroughly enjoyed our wonderful trip through the fjords of Norway!
Our weather was beautiful and the hotel selection was perfect. We especially loved Ullensvang Hotel, Loftus and Kviknes in Ballestrand.
It did not occur to me when booking the trip that a fjord view might have been an option, had I known then that is what I would have booked...perhaps it should be a suggestion to others in future. When you travel that far a beautiful view is worth it...and the views were beautiful.
Another suggestion would be to provide a detailed road map of the entire area to be covered ...rather than 'Google style' maps of just each days route. A good map is essential... We did have a few wrong turns. I do recall an instance one day where we came upon a round- about in a tunnel and your directions didnt mention we had to take the Oslo exit, so that needs to be mentioned.
We loved having two days in Loftus(just to enjoy the hotel and its surrounds) and Balestrand...just beautiful places to stay, delightful staff and excellent food. After taking the train from Oslo to Bergen we felt the Flam was a bit disappointing...we had seen much better sights, in fact we realised only when we arrived that big bus tours had booked two train journeys fully so we had to wait several hours to get on a train...then to find it not quite as spectacular as we were led to believe...we then missed the only opportunity we had to see a Stave church, which we were sorry about. Just unlucky, but worth mentioning to other travellers.
Despite these few suggestions on how to improve the journey for others, our trip was one of the best we have had over seas...all thanks to you!
We would recommend 'Authentic Scandinavia Tours' to anyone interesting in exploring Norway!
Sally and i returned from Scandinavia this past Sunday. What with the jet lag we are a little slow in getting up to speed but now we are. We thank you so much for the marvelous dventure. Having a car and flexibility to organize our own daily itinerary was wonderful! And we had a wonderful hike in Geiranger in the pouring rain up to a small farm house turned restaurant for a neat lunch. The joy of doing what we like was marvelous. And the difference in hotels gave added richness. We were very well taken care of in the hotels with dining room tables by windows, etc. The voucher system was so easy.
So glad we didn't do our initial plan for a long tour on the Hurtigruten - much too sedentary for our personalities.
One idea for your future self guided tour consideration is a similar tour with lodging in small bed and breakfasts with more opportunity to converse with local folks. Interesting that there is little stranger to stranger conversation in the big hotels. We did our best to reduce this culture a little.
Thanks again for all your help,Wayne & Sally Park - USA
The trip was wonderful, and everything went well, accordingly to plan. You really have a truly wonderful country, and I will return for sure to Norway, mainly to the northern part of Norway.
In terms of feedback, I’ve only one remark to make. My wife and I didn’t understand the Orkanger night, being so close to Trondheim, I would substitute that night for one additional night in Trondheim or by a night in a place between Geiranger and Trondheim. For instance, we decided to go through the Atlantic road, which added some 80/100 Km to the 320 Km from Geiranger to Trondheim, and we were very happy with that decision, although the tiredness of doing almost 450 Km in one day. Other than this, everything was truly fine and very well organized. Undoubtedly, a trip that will remain in our memories for a long long time.Nuno Vaz – Portugal
Many thanks to your team for organising our tour to Kiruna and at such short notice. The tickets arrived in good time and everything went smoothly.
The holiday was wonderful. We travelled north on the overnight train which was an experience in itself for our 7 year old who had never slept on a train before. He stayed up late to watch the snowy countryside looking out for reindeer. Our transfers to and from the hotel were pre-arranged by yourselves, on time and the drivers were very friendly and welcoming.
The ice hotel was surreal. We wandered around the hotel during the day when it was open to visitors, the ice rooms were spectacular. Our warm accommodation on the first night was in a log cabin which was spacious with living area and kitchen. Our night in the cold room was incredible. The sight of my husband and son running through the snow in nothing but their thermal underwear, hats and boots will be with me for a long time!
The tours were the highlight of the trip. Snow mobiling down a frozen river at midnight with my 7 year old on the back was quite exhilarating. It was the end of the season so we had the guide all to ourselves, David who was an experienced polar scientist, arctic guide and great cook, who regaled us with stories of his encounters with the polar bears. We got up to about 40 mph as he guided us over lakes, rivers and through the woods. He cooked us dinner in the log cabin by the river whilst we waited for the Northern lights, no luck this time though.
The following day we took the husky sled tour. The dogs were great fun and the ride quite hair raising and very bumpy at times. The team was made up of 10 dogs. I learned to brace myself when the first two dogs disappeared, I knew we were about to follow them down a steep slope! The driver was very kind, he told us about the dogs and cooked us lunch in the woodland camp and then took us back to the kennels to meet the other dogs. The dogs didn't like to rest too long and their chorus of howling was so funny, we taped it and are going to use it as our mobile phone ring tones. Some of the dogs were quite melodious!
All in all it was a most memorable holiday and an amazing experience.
Thank you very much for making it happen for us.
Hi Ms Trude,
Just like to drop you a note of thanks for all the help and last minute arrangements. It was very smooth and efficient even for a single traveller like me. The trip was great, with the exception that the Northern Lights were hiding behind the clouds for the 2 nights I was in the Lapland.
But I did have a great time and I would certainly like to have a go at it again maybe this December or Next January and also have a longer stay in the Lapland. I won't hesitate to recommend your services and package to any of my peers who are interested in going to the Lapland.
Once again, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks and appreciation to you and I certainly look forward to booking my next trip with you and Authentic Scandinavian.
Thank you,Joseph Chua - Singapore
Our time in Scandinavia was absolutely wonderful, and we thank your organization which was all perfect. We appreciate all the information you supplied for getting to hotels, information about public transport and best things to do in each city. We loved Copenhagen and Stockholm, a little disappointed that everything was closed in Oslo for New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, the two days that we were there, but must accept this as a part of travelling at that time of the year.
We really enjoyed the winter adventure, especially the Ice Hotel and the reindeer sledding and if we can we would like to return to do some more reindeer sledding. Lapland is so different from anything in Australia, and learning about the culture of the Sami people was so interesting.
Thank you once again for organising our stay in Scandinavia, we will recommend you to all our friends for future travel.
My husband and I had a WONDERFUL time in Sweden. The detailed itinerary you provided made it very easy for us to get around and know where to go. My mind was so set on seeing the Northern Lights (which we did in Abisko!) and the Ice Hotel, that I didn't even think about the other neighboring Scandinavian countries. Now I'm definitely interested in seeing Norway and Denmark as well!
I think the only thing we would've like to do differently is skip the 16 hour train ride, and just fly directly to Kiruna instead. I forgot to bring motion-sickness medicine, so both my husband and I felt a bit nauseated when we finally got off the train. It was an interesting experience though!
If we ever get a chance to go back, we'll definitely book through Authentic Scandanavia :)
Thank you so much!
Just a short email on behalf of my parents to say a big thank you for the amazing organisation of the trip they just came back from in Kiruna and Tromso.
They really had an extraordinary time, everything went smoothly with the transfers, trains, buses and hotels. They loved the Ice hotel and the peace and quiet of Abisko National Park. And they even had the chance od withnessing the Northern lights 3 nights, once in Abisko and twice in Tromso, where they didn't stop flashing, twisting and exploding for at least one hour and a half!! Incredible!
So again, thank you so much for the experience, we will surely be recomending Athentic Scandinavia to our friends and also thank you for your kindness in organising the trip. It was very nice to collaborate and to talk to you via email!
Earlier this year, my wife and I decided on a vacation in Sweden to try and see the Northern Lights. We chose the Sweden Northern Lights Adventure Tour from Authentic-Scandinavia and were so pleased with every aspect. From choosing, planning, receiving documents, and getting tips on how to prepare for our adventure, the kind people at Authentic Scandinavia took care of us in every respect. On our trip itself, we didn't worry about the particulars of how to get around or where to stay because these were carefully chosen and provided. Instead, we immersed ourselves into the trip. We explored Stockholm's cobblestoned Old City and opened our minds to its amazing history and culture at the various museums and Royal Palace. We took an overnight train to the enchanting and breathtaking Tree Hotel in the northern part of Sweden and a part of us remains there, expecting our return to this beautiful area. We spent time in Abisko, at the Aurora Sky Station to see a delicate green aurora and more constellations than we thought possible, braving conditions very foreign to us along the way. We braved the cold of the Ice Hotel and had some excellent meals, and even better memories. Along the way, we met a fellow traveler from the other side of the world that we remain in contact with and are planning future trips with. What we thought was an unusual and atypical 'vacation' became a wonderful, memorable adventure. 6 days has never been more full!Dawn & Michal Friedman - USA
Our trip was exceptional, extraordinary and amazing to say the least. From the time we arrived in Stockholm, everything that was booked and planned went as smoothly as possible.
The Clarion Sign hotel was great, especially for its ambiance and also its location. The staff there were exceptional and accommodated our requirements with ease. We will surely be staying there again on our next visit to Stockholm.
Our next location was the Tree hotel, what a treat that was. We were fortune enough to meet the Architect ( Mr Birtel Harstrom) of the Birds Nest as he travelled with us to the location. He was so excited to hear that we would be staying in his creation, he was there to give an interview with a French travel reporter. My son was over the moon when he saw the Birds nest tree house. Britta and her family gave us such a warm welcome that we felt like part of the family.
The horse riding excursion, with Roger was a lot of fun. It had been a while since I got on a horse but it was amazing to trench thru the snow and forest. Followed by a traditional treat “fat Tuesday pastries”. Again Roger and his partner were very welcoming and We were very excited to hear his stories of the Wild west riding that he teaches. Time got the better of us but we will surely stay in touch with roger via email. My Son wants to go back to stay with Roger to help out as a stable boy….( personally I don’t think he will last 1 day with the hard labour…but you never know)
WOW, WOW is the only way I can describe the Ice hotel. And we were I think the most fortunate to see the northern lights even before we started the Snow mobile tour that evening. There are no words really to describe what we saw, the sky was awake and dancing for us…..we had the lights going all night. I have never taken so many photos in my life. This was one of the major highlights of our trip.
Being dog lovers our dog sledge tour the next morning was exciting and also very fascinating and informative. Sadly we had to move on to our final adventure location. Abisko.
Abisko was ok, The weather prevented us from being outside so we missed out on doing some activities. But it was good to catch up with some rest from our trip. The only critisim I would have is that the STF don’t really cater for kids. The exclusive sky station dinner was exceptional but they should have done something for the kids there were 8 kids who all had to have the adult menu.
Also would suggest for STF to have a small kids menu on offer. It would make the little ones feel more special.
But overall we had a blast of a time in Sweden and are really looking forward to our next trip – most probably to experience the midnight sun. Keep you posted.
Thank you all at Authentic Scandinavia for organising and booking the tour. I will surely be advising my friend to use your services.
Please accept my apologies for not getting back to you sooner as I have meaning to reply.
Yes, the break was wonderful, we both thoroughly enjoyed it. The accommodation (cabin) was certainly acceptable and more importantly we were warm.
The hotel staff were very helpful, the meals were of good standard and a great deal of variety in the morning re breakfast. The outings were well organised.
I would certainly recommend this holiday to friends and family, so thank you for an very enjoyable break.Claire Blinko - United Kingdom
We had the most amazing time :-)
The hotel was fantastic, lots and lots of food, brilliant helpful friendly staff, very warm rooms, all the activities were great and we were privileged to have Dirk as our guide for the first 2 days (shame he was too busy to come on the Huskies), loved having the cross country skiis for a day and even had 4 days of the Northern Lights (the best showing was the last day too!) ... what else can we say?? Oh yes the group (11 of us) was really fun too and a great mix of people ... we even booked the sauna/hot tub together and braved the ice hole. It's not often that the holiday meets your expectations but this one exceeded them so thank youLisa & Mike Holmes - United Kingdom
The stay at Harriniva was simply perfect!
The hotel was great, the staff very friendly, the program excellently organized. I can only recommend that tour to everybody.
Thank you also for your support. I always felt well informed and the contact with you and your colleagues with easy and nice. So I will have a look on your offers when I think about my next holidays in one of the northern countries.
It is a wonderful experience in Iceland. The itinerary was very well organized and we had ample time to visit the place of interests and we enjoyed so much in this trip.
Hotels were nice and relaxing and we had great meals too.
The weather was so good although is cold. We managed to capture very beautiful scenery and also the Northern light. Everyone was so excited, is amazing :)
Yes! We are sure to be back to Scandinavia again...
I am great that I have a right choice to go with you. Thank you for the wonderful arrangement :)
The trip was fantastic, and the guide on the superjeep trip, Ingimundur, was very helpful and organised. He also had a lot of informative videos and slides to show us during the drive. It is a lot better than the larger coach tours and couldn't have asked for more. The accommodation at Hotel Hekla was lovely and new, food was superb.
I was very sad to leave and can't wait to return!
