Visit Dalarna and experience Sweden at its most authentic! Dalarna is known not only for its scenic landscape of forests, lakes and red wooden houses; its lively tradition of folk customs, celebrations and crafts contribute in making this region the “the most Swedish”.

The selected tour can commence in Stockholm.

Day 01: Arrival in Stockholm

Arrival in Stockholm according to your own itinerary. Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, is built on 14 islands and you are never far from the water. Well-preserved medieval buildings stand alongside modern architecture, and just outside the city, the archipelago of 24 000 islands is waiting to be explored. Sights of interest include the Vasa Museum, Skansen Open Air Museum, City Hall and the Old Town (Gamla Stan). Accommodation in the Stockholm region.

Day 02: Stockholm – Mora in Dalarna (320 km)

Breakfast at the hotel. Today you will head for Mora and the Dalarna region. When leaving Stockholm we recommend a detour to Sigtuna, a lively little town founded by Viking King Eric the Victorious. Sigtuna is the oldest, still existing, town of Sweden. Continue via Enköping, Avesta and Borlänge to Mora, beautifully located by Lake Siljan in the Dalarna region. Lake Siljan and the surrounding landscape were created 360 million years ago, when a meteor fell from the sky and onto Dalarna. The region is known for its traditional midsummer celebrations, hand carved Dala-horses, international festivals, red wooden houses, sausage specialties named Falukorv, cheerful folk music and impressive mountain regions. Accommodation in Mora.

Day 03: Exploring Mora

Breakfast at the hotel. This day is at your own leisure to explore the many attractions Dalarna has to offer. We recommend spending the day in Mora, where you can go for a walk along Lake Siljan, or maybe your would prefer to go for a swim? A visit at the Zorn Museum is also recommendable. Anders Zorn is famous amongst other things for his nude paintings, portraits and aquarelle paintings. The museum displays his works, in addition to parts of his private art collection. We also recommend a visit at Zorngården, former residence of the couple Anders and Emma Zorn. Accommodation in Mora.

Day 04: Around Lake Siljan

Breakfast at the hotel. Today we recommend an excursion on your own to the peninsula of Sollerön, located about 14 km from Mora. The Museum of Local History consists of 12 buildings, exhibitions and Viking ships. A walking path guides you around the field with Viking graves. From Sollerön you can continue to Gesunda, where a gondola will bring you up the Gesunda Mountain with panoramic views of Lake Siljan and the surrounding areas. Drive from Gesunda along Lake Siljan in southern direction past Leksand to the charming village of Tällberg. The houses in this small village are mainly made of wood, such as timber or log. In addition to the village’s 200 permanent residents, this is a popular place for private holiday cottages. Before returning to Mora we recommend a stop in Nusnäs, located 10 km south of Mora. Nusnäs is where the traditional Dala Horse – a national symbol of Sweden – is produced. You can follow the production process from the piece of wood until the complete and painted horse. Accommodation in Mora.

Day 05: A day in Dalarna

Breakfast at the hotel. Today we recommend an excursion to Orsa Bear Park, Northern Europe's largest bear park. Here you will find brown bears, wolves, wolverines, lynx, foxes and eagle owl. The predators live in their natural habitat, giving you the chance to study the animals in their own environment. Also recommendable is a visit to the small summer farm village of Fryksås. Here you will find several old wooden cottages, as well as outstanding views over the wonderful Dalarna countryside. Fryksås offers great dining, several hiking possibilities and plenty of fresh air. Accommodation in Mora.

Day 06: Mora – Falun – Uppsala (265 km)

Breakfast at the hotel. Today you will leave Mora and continue by car past Falun, where you will have the possibility to visit the copper mine. The copper mine in Falun used to be of big importance for the region, and even though it has lost its economical importance, it is still a renowned Swedish sight. The botanist, Carl von Linné, has described it as “the biggest miracle of Sweden, but ugly as hell.” A visit to the mine is an impressing experience and an exciting tour through a millennium. The museum is located right next to the enormous crater, which was formed in 1687. The mine is on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. From Falun we recommend a detour to Sundborn village to visit the farm of Carl Larsson, also known as ”the house in the sun”. Carl Larsson created a national treasure for Sweden with his paintings. Continue from Falun to Uppsala, Sweden’s forth largest city. The university city of Uppsala is an especially pleasant and pretty city, with many scenic waterways, winding streams, countless cycle lanes and a thriving youthful population of students. There are many magnificent sights around central Uppsala, where the 15th-century Uppsala Cathedral (Domkyrka) is amongst the finest that Sweden has to offer. Accommodation in Uppsala.

Day 07: Uppsala

Breakfast at the hotel. This day is at your own leisure in Uppsala. Sights of interest in Uppsala include the cathedral, university, castle, Carl Linnaeus Garden and Old Uppsala where you will find several pre-Viking, pre-historic burial mounds. Accommodation in Uppsala.

Day 08: Departure from Uppsala

Breakfast at the hotel. Departure from Uppsala according to your own itinerary.
