Visit Lapland, the land of the Sami people and the Midnight Sun. Travel from Rovaniemi, the Gateway to Lapland, via the endless plains of Finnish Lapland to Karasjok. Visit the North Cape and embark on a cruise with Hurtigruten.

The selected tour can commence in Rovaniemi.

Day 01: Arrival in Rovaniemi

Arrival in Rovaniemi according to your own itinerary. Rovaniemi is located where Lapland’s mighty rivers Kemijoki and Ounasjoki meet. As the capital of the province, Rovaniemi has always been a gateway to Lapland, with its forests of pine- and spruce trees in the south and naked hills in the north. A well known sight in Rovaniemi is the Arktikum Museum, which presents the interaction between man and nature in northern areas. Arktikum also houses the Provincial Museum of Lapland. Also recommendable is a visit to the Santa Claus Village, where you will have the possibility to visit Santa Claus, find shops selling Finnish glass and souvenirs, Santa’s post office, exhibitions etc. Accommodation in Rovaniemi.

Day 02: Rovaniemi – Karasjok (445 km)

Breakfast at the hotel. Departure from Rovaniemi in northern direction, through beautiful arctic nature. Just when leaving you will cross the Arctic Circle. We recommend a stop in the authentic gold village, Tankavaara, before continuing through the land of the thousand lakes. Lake Inari, which is a holy place for the Sami people (Sami is what the Laps call themselves), has more than 3000 small islands. At Karigasniemi you cross the border to Norway before arriving in Karasjok, "the Capital of the Sami People”. Accommodation in Karasjok.

Day 03: Karasjok – North Cape (245 km)

Breakfast at the hotel. Before leaving Karasjok, we recommend a visit to Sapmi (“the land of the Sami”), a Cultural Center where you will learn more about the Sami culture. Head north past Lakselv and continue along the North Cape Road along Finnmark's longest fjord, the Porsangerfjord, until reaching Magerøya and North Cape through the underwater tunnel. In the evening we recommend an excursion to the North Cape Plateau where you can admire the panoramic view of the open wide expanse of the Arctic Ocean, and perhaps have the opportunity to see the Midnight Sun. Entrance to the North Cape Hall with viewing platform, souvenir shops, cinema, cafeteria and restaurant, is included. Accommodation in Honningsvåg/Kamøyvær.

Day 04: Magerøya Island / North Cape

Breakfast at the hotel. This day is at your own leisure to explore Magerøya Island, with its fishing villages and great hiking possibilities. Also recommendable is a Bird Safari by boat to Gjesværstappen Nature Reserve (please see add-ons for further details and price). Accommodation in Honningsvåg/Kamøyvær.

Day 05: North Cape – Hammerfest (Hurtigruten) – Alta (145 km)

Early morning departure with Hurtigruten from Honningsvåg to Hammerfest. The 5 hour journey with the Norwegian Coastal Voyage is part of the world’s most beautiful sea voyage, during which you will pass beautiful scenery of large and small islands, skerries and sounds. Breakfast is served onboard. In Hammerfest we recommend a visit at the Royal and Ancient Polar Bear Society and the Museum of Reconstruction. We also recommend a drive up the town mountain Salen, with panoramic view of the town and the surrounding islands. Continue southwards across Finnmarksvidda plateau before descending to Alta. Accommodation in Alta.

Day 06: Alta – Enontekiö (215 km)

Breakfast at the hotel. Before heading to Finland, we recommend a visit at Alta Museum with its more than 2.500 prehistoric rock carvings. The rock carvings in Alta Museum have been an UNESCO world heritage site since 1985. From Alta you continue to Kautokeino, Norway’s largest municipality where the majority of the population is Sami. We recommend a visit at Juhls Silver Gallery, before continuing southwards across the border to Finland and Hetta in Enontekiö. In Enontekiö you will find Skierri, the Fell Lapland Nature and Culture Centre, which presents the genuine Nomadic Sámi Culture, the diversity of northern nature and the history of tourism in Enontekiö. From the Fell Lapland Nature Centre a well signposted trail leads up to the Jyppyrävaara hill, an ancient place of worship. From the summit there is a breathtaking view over the Ounastunturi Fell and Ounasjärvi Lake. Accommodation in Enontekiö.

Day 07: Enontekiö – Rovaniemi (320 km)

Breakfast at the hotel before returning to Rovaniemi. Accommodation in Rovaniemi.

Day 08: Departure from Rovaniemi

Breakfast at the hotel. Departure from Rovaniemi according to your own itinerary.
