Experience the diversity of the Norwegian nature when travelling from high mountains to deep fjords. Overnight in mountain- and fjord villages, go hiking and enjoy a 2-hour cruise on the Sognefjord.
The selected tour can commence in Oslo.
Arrival in Oslo according to your own itinerary. The Norwegian capital is beautifully situated at the head of the Oslo Fjord and surrounded by forested ridges. Oslo offers many well know sights such as the Vigeland Sculpture Park, the Viking Ship Museum, the Munch Museum and Oslo Opera House. Accommodation in Oslo.
Breakfast at the hotel. Drive from Oslo via Hønefoss towards Fagernes. Possibility for a detour to visit Heddal Stave Church, Norway’s largest surviving stave church. Continue to the mountain village of Beitostølen, in view of the impressive Jotunheimen Mountain Range with Galdhøpiggen as Norway’s highest mountain (2469 metres). Accommodation in Beitostølen.
Breakfast at the hotel. This day is at your own leisure. The hiking possibilities in the Valdres area, to which Beitostølen belongs, are excellent. We recommend a hike to Besseggen ridge, one of Norway’s most popular hikes. The famous Norwegian writer Henrik Ibsen wrote of Besseggen: “It cuts along with an edge like a scythe for miles and miles…And scars and glaciers sheer down the precipice to the glassy lakes, 1600 feet below on either side.” Drive from Beitostølen to Gjendesheim, and continue by ferry to Memurubu, from where your hike to Besseggen will start. From Besseggen there is a great view over Gjende- and Bessvatnet Lake. One of the unique aspects of the view is that Gjende lies almost 400 m lower than Bessvatnet, and while Bessvatnet has a blue color typical of other lakes, Gjende has a distinct green color, the result of glacier runoff containing clay. The hike takes 6-8 hours, and requires an average level of fitness. Accommodation in Beitostølen.
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure from Beitostølen in direction of road E16, using a small countryside road. When reaching E16 continue to Borgund where we recommend a stop to visit Borgund Stave Church, one of the best preserved stave churches. If departing from Beitostølen early in the morning you will have the opportunity to make a stop in Flåm to experience the Flåm Railway (11:00-13:05 hrs. Please see add-ons for further details and price). Continue to Gudvangen for a two hour cruise to Kaupanger, bringing both the car and passengers across the impressive Sognefjord. Short drive to Sogndal, beautifully located by the fjord. Accommodation in Sogndal.
Breakfast at the hotel. This day is at your own leisure. We recommend a visit to Sogn Folk Museum, an open air museum where you can discover how the people of the Sogn region have lived and worked from the middle ages and up to the present time. Close to Sogndal you will also find Urnes Stave Chrurch, one of Norway’s oldest stave churches. Also recommendable is an excursion to Jostedal and the Breheimsenteret – the visitor centre of the Jostedalsbreen Glacier. Breheimsenteret is the perfect starting point for many adventurous activities, like glacier hikes, kayaking, rafting, canoeing and horseback riding. There are also plenty of opportunities for hiking on your own in the National Park mountains and valleys. Accommodation in Sogndal.
Breakfast at the hotel. Today your route continues along the Sognefjord and the apple orchards to Hella, where a short ferry crossing will bring you to Vangsnes and the village of Vik. Here we recommend a visit at Hopperstad Stave Church from year 1150. Continue across the Vik Mountain to Voss before reaching the Hardangerfjord, famous for its fruit orchards. A short ferry crossing from Bruravik to Brimnes will bring you to Eidfjord where we recommend a visit at the Hardangervidda Nature Centre. Ascend the scenic Måbødal Valley where at the top we highly recommend a stop to visit the spectacular Vøringsfossen Waterfall, with a fall of 182 metres. Continue across Hardangervidda Mountain Plateau, with its snow capped mountain peaks to Geilo. Accommodation in Geilo. Please note that we offer the possibility to include overnight(s) in Bergen before heading to Geilo.
Breakfast at the hotel. Drive from Geilo to Torpo, where there is another stave church, Torpo from the 12th century. Continue via Gol, through the beautiful Hallingdal Valley and along Lake Tyri, to Oslo. Accommodation in Oslo.
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure from Oslo according to your own itinerary.
