Even though Bergen is the second largest city in Norway, it is rather a town with the charm and atmosphere of a small town; you can walk practically everywhere in only 20 minutes and instead of tall buildings you will find wooden houses and narrow streets. Take a stroll along Bryggen Wharf before heading to Mount Fløyen with Fløibanen funicular for a spectacular view of the city. Other sights of interest include Edvard Grieg's home Troldhaugen, the Fish and Flower market, Bergen Aquarium and Gamle Bergen (Old Bergen Open Air Museum). Accommodation in Bergen.
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure by train from Bergen to Voss, before continuing by bus to Gudvangen. On the way you will descend the Stalheimskleiva road, with its 13 steep hairpin bends (Stalheimskleiva is only open during the summer). A 2-hour fjord cruise will bring you along the Nærøyfjord to Flåm. The Nærøyfjord is the narrowest fjord channel in Europe, and has recently been added to UNESCO’s World Heritage List. In Flåm you will board the Flåm Railway, which passes through wild and beautiful mountain scenery with waterfalls and steep mountain sides from the Sognefjord reaching up to a height of 900 metres. There is no other adhesion railway in the world running on normal tracks that is so steep over a long distance. From Myrdal you continue by train on the Bergen line to the mountain village of Geilo.
