The Basecamp Ship in the Ice is frozen in the beautiful Tempelfjord with a view towards the Von Post glacier. Staying aboard the world’s only hotel boat frozen in sea ice is a unique experience not to be missed. This is a great opportunity to experience the spectacular arctic nature up close. Here you can experience a silence and light that you will not find anywhere else, and perhaps you are lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the up to 700 kilo polar bear that sometimes wanders by the boat.
The ‘Noorderlicht’ is an over 100 year-old two-masted schooner. The comfortable ship, equipped for both warm and cold areas, is the ideal ship for those who are into adventures. The deckhouse and saloon below deck are spacious. Here you find ten twin-cabins. Every cabin is equipped with 80×200cm bunk beds, hot/cold running water and a 220V power outlet. Five toilets and four showers are for shared use. The Chef prepares tasty meals in the galley. In the deck-house you can find an excellent selection of books about Spitsbergen and Norway.Distances:
Hotel rooms in Scandinavia are generally furnished with twin beds, which can be moved together to form a double bed or placed separately (some hotels have double beds though). Unless otherwise specified all rooms have private bathroom facilities, which are often equipped with a shower instead of a bath. Please note that single rooms are generally smaller than doubles. Purpose-built triple or family rooms are likewise unusual in Scandinavian hotels. Whilst it is possible for 3 persons to share a room, this will normally be formed by a double room with an extra bed. As a result space may be restricted.
Unless otherwise clearly specified a standard room/cabin is included in the tour price.
