First Hotel Marin
First Hotel Marin is a charming hotel with excellent location by Bryggen Wharf near the Fish & Flower Market and Fløibanen funicular. Bryggen Wharf is included on UNESCO’s world heritage list.
The hotel has 152 rooms, all with parquet flooring and exquisite interiors. All rooms have trouser press, hair dryers, telephone, minibar and TV. Our tours include accommodation in superior rooms at First Hotel Marin. These rooms are more spacious than the standard rooms, and include a coffee/tea making set with a complimentary selection of tea and coffee.
The tasteful restaurant has a temptingly imaginative à la carte menu inspired by the Mediterranean kitchen. La Stranda bar is just the place for getting together with friends for a drink and a chat.
About category 1 hotels in Bergen: Please note that Bergen is a very popular tourist destination during the Summer months. The pressure on the hotels is considerable and they are very often fully booked. As a result many hotels in Bergen are in need of refurbishment, but have been postponing it due to the high demand for rooms. This also includes First Hotel Marin. However, we have decided to use this hotel as our preferred Category 1 Hotel due to the following reasons:
- Great location on Bryggen Wharf.
- Friendly staff and charming atmosphere.
- There are only a very few hotels in Bergen that can fit our Category 1 hotels, and per today no other hotel in Bergen with good value for money fits the requirements better than First Hotel Marin (even though Marin may seem to have a lower standard than the category 1 hotels we use in other location).

Hotel Category 1 includes hotel accommodation at modern business class hotels or at unique hotel properties like, i.e. manor houses or historic hotels of Scandinavia. Some hotels are also selected due to their location and charming atmosphere. The hotel standard is 4-5 stars.
Hotel rooms in Scandinavia are generally furnished with twin beds, which can be moved together to form a double bed or placed separately. Please note that single rooms are generally smaller than doubles, and are often equipped with a shower instead of a bath. Purpose-built triple or family rooms are likewise unusual in Scandinavian hotels. Whilst it is possible for 3 persons to share a room, this will normally be formed by a double room with an extra bed. As a result space may be restricted.
Please note that the listed hotels are guiding. If any of these hotels are fully booked we will offer alternatives of equal standard. All hotels offer comfortable rooms with private bathroom facilities. In some locations different hotel categories are not possible. In these cases we have included the same hotel in all categories.
